I have a 1976 cb750 11,000 original miles on her runs great but after some recent tinkering setting the timing and valve lash cam adjustment it has developed a chit chit chit sound in the front of the engine someone told me it was the cam chain making noise but I don't really think that is possible maybe valve lash is not right? anyone?

Did you adjust the valve clearances when the engine was dead cold..like after it sat overnight?  Cuz if you adjust them when the engine is warm they wont be right.  Actually, it COULD be your cam chain, especially if it hasnt been adjusted in 11k miles.  See that contraption coming out of your cylinder block just below the carbs/intake manifold?  Thats your cam chian tensioner.  Do a search on how to adjust that in the FAQ section and be advised that they commonly get stuck.  Not trying to imply you dont know your bike but I have no idea of your experiece.  And hey welcome to the forum.  Lots of good guys and info here!  Lots of good B.S. too!  Later.

ok I reset my valves bought a new points assembly installed it reset point gaps set timing checked and double checked everything rode down the rode runs better than ever but still have the same noise could it be an exhaust leak it only makes the noise after fourth gear when you give it some gas? I think I will buy some new exhaust gaskets and at least try that if it where the cam wouldn't it make noise in all the gears or at least all the time?

check your head gasket, mt bike was makin odd noises before it became overly obvious I had a blown head gasket

Well I feel like a fool but at least I solved my problem it was my drive chain it had at least 2 inches of deflection in it I am lucky I did not loose it into the motor. I decided to run real slow around my neighborhood and just listen real close it soon became very apparent where the noise was coming from then of course I could see it. so thanks for all the info and the kind welcome to this site which is great by the way lots of great things to read here. Now I have a fully sincronized and tuned in bike that will blast down the road man it runs good!!!

So how old is the chain?
Or how worn is it?
If it is an original chain with 11,000 miles it is overdue for a change. If the chain is worn you could still "put it into the motor". Double check the condition of that chain unless you know the history. It takes very little time and the headaches it saves are unbelievable.
