New BMW rides?
« on: March 28, 2008, 12:43:44 AM »
I was killing some time yesterday and decided to drop by the BMW and Suzuki dealers. The BMW place didn't seem to have much business, but the interesting thing was they had one each of their new offerings parked out front and the salesmen (funny how quick they appear  ::) ) offered to let me ride any of the new bikes I wanted to. The only requirement was to bring it back before closing the same day. Great idea and one the other dealers would do well to adopt.

I think all of the dealers here in Orlando will let you try out one of their used bikes but not the new ones. Maybe BMW has some special arrangement with the dealers for this.

I have the hots for a new touring bike and have been eyeing the DL650 V-Strum. A lot of the adventure riders are on them and the forums don't seem to indicate any complaints. The price is right and the new ones can be ordered with ABS brakes. For some reason they seem to rarely show up on evil bay or ... here in Orlando ... Craig's list. There is only one at the local dealers and it doesn't have ABS. Maybe people are happy with them and keeping them.  :o

I may have to modify my avatar soon!  ;D

You're being lured to the dark side. :D BMW has always had a very good policy when it comes to demo bikes/rides. I suppose they work on the assumption that if they are charging a premium for their machines they had better let prospective buyers 'have a go' first. Worked for me. Of course the reality is that when it comes down to it they (along with all of the other premium and boutique stuff out there) are still just motorcycles.

I feel for the riders that bought their dream bike as their first bike and have never had the chance to ride the older stuff, which has as much if not more character, for way less money.

It's the draw from that ancient barbarian symbol...

It's intoxicating, isn't it?  One of these days I'll have one of those symbols on the side of my '76 R90S  ;D

Barbarian? I thought it was a revolving aircraft propellor with the colours of sky and clouds....

I don't know about that. What lady could resist the pick up line "Want to come and see my duolever?"

I've always been a fan of the R90S. I remember when it was first launched un England there were a few heart attacks over the price, 1800 pounds. But it sold in reasonable numbers.
