Petcock O Ring
« on: March 21, 2008, 03:37:28 AM »
G`day guys
just putting my freshly painted tank back together and found the O ring that goes between the petcock and the tank is as hard as a rock, and the tubular filter that goes into the tank is torn...
Is the O ring an over the counter piece or is it a strange sized Honda specialty part? (its easter long weekend and no shops open for 4 days), it looks like a rubber O ring that has been a victim of time but it feels like a fibre washer, which is it? or does it matter?
and do i need to get a CB specific filter or is it a generic item?
cheers mate

You can ditch the crappy OEM filter and just buy a couple of "in line" filters from any bike shop Trop, be careful with "O" ring selection though, a lot of "O" rings don't like fuel. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You can buy individual o-rings from David Silver (shipping shouldn't be too bad either!)

I have a spare K2 fuel bowl o-ring that I bought but never used if anybody needs one.

They are still available from Honda. Just an o ring that you squeeze into place. I went OEM, didn't want to gamble with wind swept fuel leaks, over a hot engine, on new paint, 12 INCHES FROM THE FAMILY JEWELS.

Just checked and I have both o-rings.
Part number 16958-268-010 (filter bowl o-ring?)
Part number 16997-273-006 (fuel tap to tank o-ring?)

I think that's the right way round.  010 is larger than 006

Gas will not affect Neoprene O-rings.

thanks for the information guys, i`m getting impatient now and this is slowing me down, got next week off and wanted to try and get it through rego.....
O ring is needed to make it a runner, and then the only iffy thing is the exhaust being loud, dont know the rules and regs on bikes here though
cheers guys

Just find a dodgy mechanic who can do roadworthy's Trop.

My guy will just about pass anything (apart from safety items, of course) his thing is that if the RTA comes back at him for passing a loud pipe, for instance, he'll just say it's not the pipe that was on the bike when he did the inspection. Works for me........  ;D

Noise is an easy fudge, stop around the corner from the inspection site and restrict the exhaust opening with something like a large washer and some steel wool to hold it in place, just an idea.
