Soon to be a CB750 owner, new member intro
« on: August 09, 2005, 08:32:35 PM »
Hello all!  This is my first time posting, but I've been looking around these forums for a couple of weeks now.  In a few days I'll be picking up 2 1978 CB750F's.  One is black and the other is candy red; from what I've read these are the two colors that this model was offered in in that year.  The story behind the bikes:  The black one was bought off the showroom floor in 1978 by the guys dad, and was later passed down to him.  In 1992 or 93 the guy wrecked it...bent forks and trashed the front wheel, but he has the parts to fix it.  It has not run since then.  The red one hasn't run in 5 years or so, and he is the third owner.  He bought it to replace the black one when he decided he didn't want to fix it.  I've looked at both and the red one is in amazing condition appearance wise.  The people that I've talked to said that the price ($1000) is well within reason for both bikes.  Both have clear titles.  What do you guys think about that deal?  As far as mechanics go, the red one will need a new battery and the carbs cleaned, and a new throttle cable and possibly a new clutch.  The motor kicked over easily without any unusual sounds.  The black one will probably end up being a parts bike, or maybe eventually (assuming there's no frame damage from the wreck) a cafe project.

I'm sure I'll be posting here quite a bit for tech help, although I'm pretty good with a wrench.  My experience however has been on my current ride, an 03 HD Road King, and this will be my first attempt at working on a Japanese motorcycle.

I'm a 26 year old 4th year high school band director from rural Alabama.  Nice to meet Ya'll!

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!  I think it's gonna be Sunday before I take over ownership of the bikes.

Thanks to those that are willing to forgive my deviance.  One of the reasons I started looking for a CB was so I could have an extra bike to ride when my Harley is in the shop.  That seems to be all the more frequent the longer I have it.  Right now its in there with a bent tranny mainshaft.  The damage was so bad they had to get an inspector out to look at it before they would authorize the repair under the Extended Service Plan.  It all stemmed from a problem I had them take a look at several months ago; they had told me then that it's normal.  huh

Welcome CB750K8  owner I do believe you picked one of the best years.  I have a k8 daily rider that I have 99% orig now.  I parted one out 3 months ago, and may have some part you need.  This is a great forum, bring your beer and sheep and you will fit right in.

These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Welcome and thats typical with Harleys (always in the shop)

My brother just got an 05' V-Rod A.  238 miles on it and the clutch hose leaked (replaced under warranty)  Picked it up and something still leaking all over the cases.  Brought it back and now at 260 miles the coolant system has issues.  What an expensive POS.  After this I'd never buy one.
