REAL men ride what they like, and don't care what other people think. I really like scooters, and when I get too old to swing my leg over the seat of a "real" bike, I hope I won't be thought of too unkindly if I ride around on a Vespa?

Indian Larry's dead? What a shame, I really like his bikes, and if Frank (754) were to build choppers, I reckon he'd take a similar "no nonsense" approach. RIP Larry.

To me, those big "scooters" aren't scooters at all, like "cruisers" aren't Harleys. They're just oddly shaped motorcycles, if you can't step through one, it aint a scooter, and why would you bother anyway?

That big sucker looks like my BMW K1100LT with the tank off. As I said, if you have to step over it to get on it there's no advantage to it, and you've got all the disadvantages of regular motorcycle weight and fuel economy, and smaller wheels to boot, so why not just ride a regular motorcycle?

But of course, REAL men ride what they like.................

Why are most cars in the USA automatic? Because they're easier to drive.

 Equally a scooter is easier to ride because it's automatic (well most are) and also you can shove a helmet under the seat of most scooters without having to have ugly panniers or a top box. ... IN the hell-hole traffic of London I choose to ride a scooter because it takes away the having to be bothered with the clutch etc, so all my concentration is on avoiding the idiot in the white van, and I can just chuck all my stuff under the seat and walk off. I could have a "proper" bike, but the practicality of the scooter wins out and to be honest I actually enjoy riding it just as much as the CB350F - a different experience but just as rewarding. I often take "proper" bike riders by surprise by the way I corner on my scooter, they just don't expect that something that's not much bigger than a moped can handle or go so well!

How many bikes other than the  Honda Pan Pacific or the Honda Deauville have this much space to chuck stuff without additional luggage being added...

 a while back a fellow here named Rob had a few panheads, one with a sidecar.. and a 49 original paint he picked up from Dudley perkins.. nice bike..

 anyway for a while there he  rode a Honda 90 stepthru & he would ride it to the bar and park in the line of bikes..LOL..

I disagree. I drive and have driven manual shift cars all my driving life (18 years) and have driven automatic, and both are the same when it comes to driving. In manual shift, there comes a moment you don't think about shifting anymore. Automatic are better for people who like to talk on the cell phone while driving: try that when you need one hand at the wheel, another at the phone, and you need to downshift...   I would say that automatics are easier to learn, as you don't have to concentrate on shifting so you can just concentrate on the road ahead and steering.

Don't take no offense but a woman appraising a scooter gives more reason to those who think that scooters are gay. In fact, they are so gay that the manufacturers realized long time ago that unless they made them look macho no man would buy them. So you can buy lambs on wolf's skins....




But there is always a place for those women who want to commute and look sophisticate at the same time!!!

I'm on a scooter forum and 80% or more of the members are men, and I don't know of any that are gay.. though some may be. A lot of the people on there either have had motorbikes in the past, or still also have motorbikes. Most of the topics do turn gay after a while though 

It is a forum for the Maxiscooters mostly riders of Yamaha Tmaxes (500cc v-twin scooter), Gilera Nexus's (250/500cc) and Suzuki burgmans (400, 650cc) so they're on the bigger side.

I prefer a manual shift car as I have more control, though in traffic  do wish I had at least an auto-clutch in the car as it does get tiring.

I don't actually miss the geared bike control that much on the scooter as the CVT is pretty good at being just where you need it most of the time, and in traffic it's a boon not to have to clutch and declutch all the time.

It's only occasionally that I'd like to drop down a gear to anticipate overtaking something for example. Engine braking is less prominent than on a geared bike of course ( I pretty much rely on engine braking on my 350F!!!), but there is still some engine braking available.

Those Pacific Coasts have always been an interesting bike to me...wouldnt mind getting ahold of one of those for riding to work..
