flasher relay; turn signals sloooo!
« on: August 09, 2005, 09:37:39 PM »
Hey guys, been a while since i've logged on due to 12 hour shifts at work,100-105 degree California temperatures and no time for riding :(. I've been experiencing slow turn signals (winkers) since i've owned my '78 CB750F SuperSport. Charging the battery helps and i've replaced it with one from the salvage yard. I basically need to find a newer replacement flasher relay that will fit my '78. Searched all the parts (auto) stores but none of the newer ones have the same 3 prong relays. I was able to find a replacement for my '75 CB750F but no luck with the '78. Anyone know of a good replacement relay? Thanks

I just replaced my 78's relay flasher the other day with a two prong relay. I just left the ground wire? disconnected like it was. Works good now. I dont know what brand it was, i just went in and asked the auto parts store for a 12v relay flasher, they said they had them in 2 and 3 prong, i got the two prong even though i should have gotten the 3 prong cause i had 3 wires.....come to think of it.....maybe thats whats draining my battery....... :-\

I've found the two prong relays work just fine on my '78. In fact, I've never seen a three prong relay on any of the bikes I've bought. Green wire just hangs loose.

Some time back someone had posted the total draw of all systems on a running bike(signals, headlights, taillights, etc) and the total output of the charging system at its fullest. The totals were about even which is to say, there's only just enough juice to run all your systems on a well maintained clean bike. Add 28 year old wiring and a 5 year old battery and it's no surprise that the signals only flash at higher rpms. I went through all the signal leads/ grounds and cleaned them well, also hit any other leads I could get to along the way. Got a new battery and everything works as it should.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
