Rear brake sending sensor
« on: March 23, 2008, 04:04:26 PM »
Finally got the bugs out of the electrical system!!! Everything works except my rear brake light. Pulled the sending unit off the frame, disconnected the long spring and low and behold the darn spring eye on the sensor doesnt move. Its supposed to move right? I mean you step on the pedal, it pulls on the spring and the little sensors spring mounting eye moves to make or break contact. The reason I am asking is because I went to my parts bike and the damn sensor is frozen too. Now they might be garbage but.... So alittle help is needed. If I am wrong them someone please correct me, and if my parts are junk, where can I get a replacement???

thanks

Yes the shaft in the brake light switch should move, replacements are available from your friendly local Honda dealer.

try some friendly persuasion and try and move it... probably full of crud...spray some wd40 inside it,,, and work it up and down a few hundred times till it comes good.. if it doesn't then buy a new one.. :)

The shaft should move out about 1/16 inch or so... not a lot. The same switch is used on just about every small vehicle with mechanical brakes and a brake light - bikes, snowmobiles, quads, lawn tractors, golf carts... so a replacement should be easy to find. Usually shooting WD or contact cleaner in by the shaft and exercising it a bit will free up the works.
