Painting stator cover
« on: April 03, 2008, 01:43:03 PM »
I'm getting ready to paint black around the "Honda" imprint on the stator cover, can anyone suggest an easy way to do this without having to mask off each letter. I was thinking going over the letters with a wax crayon might work, then I could just melt it off when I'm done. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

paint right over the letters then immediately wipe them off before the paint has a chance to cure

What I have done is mask all around the logo and then shoot it with a spray can semigloss engine paint.  After it dries about 10 minutes I peel the masking.  Then I use a smooth cloth wrapped around a small flat bar and moisten it with something that will remove paint and not harm the clear coat if any.  I've used acetone, alcohol, it depends on what's on the cover.  Then carefully wipe it accross the logo leaving the black paint in the recess and cleaning everything around it.  You'll have to keep using a clean area on the cloth and wipe several times.  It can't be too textured or too wet or it will wipe the paint out of the recesses.  Everytime I've done it it takes me about 3 tries to get it right but eventually I get it.  I hope someone suggest a better way.
