I think for just liability, there's probably not all that much difference between providers.  It's pretty easy to check around, though.  Many places give online quotes now.

I pay less than $100 per 6 months for all four of my bikes through geico.  I'll probably switch to USAA at the end of this policy, though, because we're switching the cars to them and they're by far the least expensive if you qualify to become a member.

Ah, good to know.  Perhaps I'll just stick with geico, then.  Definitely can't complain about the rates.

Oh, we'll be switching the cars to usaa.  We'll be getting better coverage, plus towing and roadside assistance, for much less than we're currently paying Progressive.

I'm with Dairyland, which is a subsidiary of Sentry. I pay $53 a year for liability on both my CB750s and my '87 Shadow VT1100. The price was the same with the Shadow, one CB and my '79 Yamaha XS11. The price they quoted me was half the price of Progressive.

if you already have a modern motorcycle you can't beat Hagerty's classic insurance. I live in NYC and I pay approx $190 a year for 3 bikes (2 cb750s and a T500) with full coverage. This is much better than the $1100 I pay a year for full coverage on my ducati. The only restriction is that the bike has to be older than 1987 and you have to use it less than 2-3K a year (you can go over but you have to notify them before you do). I imagine most people here fit these requirements.

As far as regular bike insurance - I would go with dairyland. I have my duc with them and they were the cheapest I could find in NY and so far as have great customer service.

Also if you don't have health insurance, I strongly suggest you make sure your motorcycle policy has some sort of health coverage for you if you wreck. NY is an opt out state where by a rider can opt out of health insurance coverage and if you don't have something else to pay your hospital bills when you fall off it could be a killer.

I insure my two cars with Progressive, but they wanted almost $400 a year for liability on my 77 CB550.  Geico on the other hand quoted $98 a year for the same coverage.

There are so many different situations when it comes with insurance that the only way to know what is cheapest is to get your own quotes.  What may be the cheapest for one person may be the most expensive for another.

Wow... Insurance in Toronto is such a rip-off. The best I could find is one year for $500.00 for my '75 400F. That's bare minimum, no theft, no collision and my bike has yet to be appraised. I'm male, in my mid 40's and have a perfect driving record. Go figure! >:(

thats funny i was with geico for my car and they gave me something like $400 a year for my 75 550, but progressive offered me $100 a year.  i guess its to attract new accounts or some such nonsense.  all i know is geico is a real drag if you ever need them and doubt i would go with them again even if they gave me the lowest quote.

While $500 sounds in the ballpark, I'm surprised it's that high.  I pay $547 for my BMW R75/6.  Your 400 should be under $500 I would think.

Like many in Toronto I go through JR Duffy and insure with Jevco.

I have heard that Canada has exceedingly high rates for older vehicles. Their older vehicle registration laws are somewhat draconian. Just what I have heard.

When I was getting car insurance quotes a few years ago Geico was the most expensive, so I was surprised they were so cheap for the bike.  I really like Progressive.  When my rates went up last year, they called me and explained why and then asked a bunch of questions to see if I qualify for lower rates.  I ended up paying less thanks to their call. :)  It really impressed me that they did that.

I still haven't bought insurance for the bike yet.  I'm not riding it yet as I just got the carbs back on yesterday and am working out all the little kinks, so I still have some time to shop around. :)

I've got liability insurance on my '73 750k, and its basically free. When I added it to my auto policy, the premium went down $300 a year, because they gave me a multi-vehicle discount. We aren't required in WA to insure our bikes, but, I like to have it just in case. The rest of the bikes are with Hagerty, and I think its about $200 a year for all of them...

507 a year for my 74 750k i have VERY high injury protection for me, with a 100 dollar deductible, here they also require uninsured/underinsured coverage which i also put  high limits on as i have no health insurance so if i get hurt on the bike anything will be covered.

You heard right!

I'm riding a '74 CB 750 and I only found one company who would even insure it, and that cost me over $800  If the bike was less than 20 years old I could have had it insured for $560.
Figure that one out.

Zikes!  I have had progressive for a few years.  It was $73 per year for basic coverage in New York.  When I bought my Concours it went up to $247 because I have to carry Comprehensive and Collision.  This year I got my renewal and it dropped to $143 for the year.  I had to read it over twice to make sure there wasn't a mistake.  I actually save about $30 by having the Honda over what just the Concours would cost.

Just for statistics, I am 46, married and have not had any accidents or tickets in close to 30 years.  That probably helps.
