CB550 in DC
« on: March 25, 2008, 09:57:58 AM »
Hey all,

I found this site a couple of months back and have been lurking around in the shadows.

I just moved to DC from Charlotte and I am about to crack into re-redoing my bike.  I have a 78 CB550K that I got off ebay about 5 years ago.  After I bought it I put 5 months into it caffeinating it.  I then rode it almost exclusively for 3 years through law school in New Orleans (when the Alfa Romeo wasn't running, which was frequent).  Long story short . . . I didn't have a garage and through the past 5 years it has been through a lot (including surviving Katrina).

So I am going to tear it back down and rebuild it better than ever.  I am excited to find this community and I know that I will be asking questions and hopefully I can contribute as well.  I never did nor have I ever rebuilt an engine, so I am hoping to utilize this site.

I will post some pictures soon.

Welcome. When you post pics, include the Alfa. I'm sure others would be interested in seeing it as well.

Welcome, and likewise on the neighbor.  I am also in VA inside the beltway.

What is making you think about cracking open the motor?

I'm in the Columbia Heights area in DC.

I am thinking of tearing down the engine for a couple of reasons.  1.  Because it is there and 2.  I would like to replace the gaskets because I have several leaks.

I will post pictures this weekend.  I am about to place my Alfa on the market and I am going to borrow a camera to take pictures of my car and I will also take some pics of my bike.
