electronics questions
« on: March 25, 2008, 08:28:55 pm »
hello I'm very new to working with my electrics on my cb400f. my left rear blinker is not working, the idiot light comes on but does not blink. The right side blinker functions perfectly at the idiot light and the blinker. Any suggestions?

Thanks

  • If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's electrical

Is your bulb burnt out?

Check your wiring to make sure you have a circuit and the contacts are clean

I believe the bulb is working fine, could it be the winking unit?

Not if the other side works

The blinker system requires the correct load to operate properly as the current drawn by two indicator bulbs causes the bimetal strip to heat and bend (making and breaking the contact). If the load is wrong it will not heat enough and therefore will not flash.

As the RH side works, there is nothing wrong with the flasher unit (as there's only one of them in there!)

You must have a blown bulb (or bulbs) or a fault in the wiring.

Swap bulbs R to L first.

Check the green (earth) wires that come out of the lamp assembly. Are they connected to the frame?

Report back.
