Topic: Winter woes

1975 C750K5
Unknown miles...speedometer says 32,000
Stored it in my living room for the winter.
Drained tank
Took carbs off to look at them and do what inspecting I could
Didn't really take anything apart except the bowls and the main jet in the center. Didn't make any adjustments to anything.
Cleaned everything I could and then blew out with can of compressed air
Put all back together
Went out last night to start after sitting in the living room and put fresh gas in it. It then cranked over and fired but didn't stay running. It acts like it is starving for fuel. I tried it a few more times but, it would still not stay running unless I opened the throttle a bit. If I left the throttle open it would run just fine.

Any ideas?

I'd check the pilot jets, and make sure they're clean, as it doesn't take much to clog them up. Hope this helps!

Did you choke it at all when starting? Ditto on the slow jets...see this section in the FAQS:

Yep, had the choke on all the way.

Will have to look into the jets. Try some Sea Foam?

I did get it running, but as soon as I let off the throttle it coughs and dies, so I got some things to look into!!!

Yes, most likely the pilot jets.  The holes in these are so tiny, that doesn't take much at all to clog them.  They have to be pulled and physically cleaned out, and then spray carb cleaner and compressed air throught the fuel passage.  No fuel system cleaner run through the tank will clean out a jet if it's completely blocked.

How far open is your idle knob? If it is not open far enough, the bike will not idle and will need throttle.
