Please look

Ok so I have been lurking for a long time now and have been trying to find a bike to my liking. I have seemed to take an interest in the 75-76  CB750f models. So I found this particular bike on flebay.  Something seems fishy about the bike to me, as in the vin is not that of a 750f it would make it a K model and other things don't add up, such as the gauges, and the side covers. I was wondering if someone would check it our and tell me what you think as this would be my first old bike build.

well, with a $900 reserve and a $125 "documentation fee" it's certainly not a "bargain bike".  However, if this is your first build and the bike runs, it might be a good starting point.  Similar bikes could be had for less cash, but might not have a title and might "have run when parked".  Which could mean a new battery and a simple carb clean, or could mean worse.

If the title matches the VIN, I wouldn't worry too much about whether it should be a F or a K.

Do you have a chance to go and look at it in person and hear it run before you bid?

My guess is that it won't make the reserve price and you might be able to buy it for less in person.  Depends upon how much you happen to want this particular model and what your plans are for it.  It's missing enough OEM parts that it's probably not a great candidate for a full resto, but if you're interested in making a custom type build out of it and don't care if particular stock pieces are missing, then it's worth a shot.  Again, if you live close, I'd go and listen to the bike run and then wait until the end of the auction and see if you can snag it for a few dollars less.

Every dollar that you save on the purchase price will be quickly gobbled up by parts that you will need or want for your build.

I am planning on doing a cafe style bike buildup and thus don't really care if some stuff is modified or missing. I just like the 75/76 CB750f models due to the combination of rear disk brake and spoke wheels, as well as a few other details, but thats another story, I guess I am going to have to continue my search. Thanks much.

Where are you at?  I may be selling my red '76 750F (read "may").  I'm in Chicago western suburb area.

Serial # looks good.  The F0 started with 250 the F1 251 and the F260. So that puts it in the F1 '76' model range.  Sidecovers look right just painted, tank and headers look right for 76, but the 9.5K Tach doesn't. My 75 only goes up to 8.5. I don't think they made any changes to the engine for the first 2 years.  Rotors were solid too.

Tach and speedo are from 77-78 F model. Everything else looks like 75-76 F model though. Grab rail and airbox missing, aftermarket signals. Looks like a good candidate for what you want to do. If the price is right for you and you can verify that it is in good running order then go for it, you could certainly do worse.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

cherry bomb muffler no extra charge....

Looks ok from what I see other than the airbox missing.
Parted out a 76 last year and it pretty well matches what I had.

The seller has quoted the engine number CB750E-2523141 instead of the VIN No, which is correct for a 76 F1.
I would ask for the frame/vin number to check.
