RIP Jeff Healy

Got word that he past from cancer.
What a Hell of a guitar player he was.

thats horrible, not only was he a great guitarist but a hell of a nice guy too i understand.

This actually happened a couple weeks ago if I remember correctly. Still bad though. He was one of the good things to come from Canada. Does NOT balance out Celine Dion OR Bryan Adams! :D

he owned a bar in downtown Toronto,so i saw him play quite a few times.

Damn!!! This is one of the few obit messages in this forum I know who are you talking about. I have most of his records. Discovered him in a crappy movie titled "Roadhouse" starring Patrick Swayze and became a fan ever since. As a guitar player -lousy one- myself, I always admired how the guy overcame his blindness and became such a talented player and composer -and great singer too in my opinion-. I didn't know he was going through cancer. Damn.....

RIP Jeff, and Eldy, you Canuks should be proud of ol' Celine, she's OK, But if Bryan Adams got run over by a Moose, I could care less, the little poof! ;D

What's wrong with Celine Dion? I think she has one of the best voices around. The other day I saw a Simpsons episode, where Homer crosses the border to buy drugs, and there was a banner in the border saying something like "Welcome to Canada, now Celine Dion-free". What's wrong with her. Are you canadians behaving as spaniards, despising all the talented people in your country so they have to fly away in search of more educated audiences?


I don't find anything wrong with Bryan Adams either. Maybe a bit too comercial lately, but his songs always put me in a good mood.

Jeff Healey was an amazing musician, he definitely had the blues. If his compositions were great, check the "Cover to cover" album. I love the "stuck in the middle with you" cover by Healey. I read in his webpage that he leaves a 14 year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son. Why do kids have to lose their parents at such an early age? Damn.....

She was the butt of many a joke on South Park too!

As for Jeff he will be missed although lately he was so into the jazz scene that I had all but forgotten him. He was definitely a hell of a guitarist/musician but unlike most he went against the commercialism thing and just had a great time playing at his bar and like I said switched to a genre that was less financially rewarding but obviously more fulfilling for him.

I find it lousy today. I kinda liked when I saw it first time. Believer it or not, I paid my movie ticket to see the whole "American Ninja" saga.... I liked fight movies when I was a teenager. But Patrick Swayze was not my cup of tea, he got public attention after "dirty dancing" but he was never a good actor for my taste. Ben Gazzara, one of the best Al Capones ever, was not "believable" in his role of mega-evil.

There are two things I remember from the movie: Jeff Healey playing his guitar on his lap, in the club, protected of airborne glasses and bottles by a wire fence, and the barman screwing a groupie doggy-style on the waiter's room and Patrick Swayze spoiling the fun by firing the guy on the spot. C'mon, it is a fashion bar and he is a good-looking boy! Do you really think he works there only for the scant paycheck?  ;D ;D ;D

Oh Man, That's a bummer! I was just wondering last week what had happened to him (I think Roadhouse was on).
I first saw him late at night on a show MC'd by Graham Nash (I first saw Harry Connick on that show too as a kid, when he still played jazz, before he decided he was Sinatra!). I think Jeff was about 17... I was amazed! I finally got to see him a few years later in what I called my "Wunderkind of Blues tour"... That summer, I saw Jeff, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Johnny Lang and Monster Mike Welch in a months time!

I just heard today that Patrick Swayze has pancreas cancer. I did some research and guess what...

....

Ben Gazzara had throat cancer in 1999. He was luckier than Jeff and overcame the cancer.

I wouldn't wish an illness like that on anyone, but after wasting my money more than once on Patrick Swayze movies, (ok, I liked "Ghost" but I wasn't looking at Patrick.........) I don't feel much sympathy. "Roadhouse" was absolute craaaaaaaaaaaap..................  :P

Don't recall the line -I saw it dubbed in spanish but I guess the translation should be straight and still be funny-. But I remember the images like if it was yesterday. Seems I have a very selective memory. Let's see if the scene is in youtube somewhere -I doubt it because of the sexual content...
