Seriously I had no idea there was a day or a procedure......

I figured I was doing my part riding my 350. I used 2.6 gallons of gas this week.

I had a blade shave this morning instead of using my electric razor.

This went a long way to offset the 860,000 tonnes of coal that this country exports to China every year. They, that is Solid Energy, which is a State Owned Enterprise aka a government department are hoping to export 1.2 million tonnes next year when they open up an extra mine on our west coast.

The hypocrisy is blinding. I'm an EcoAtheist in that I just don't buy into this crap. It's B.S.   In the USA are there tax credits for buying an 8 litre V10 Dodge?

So I'm not turning off the porch light for one hour boys!

In honor of the Earth I hereby pledge to shut off all the lights in my house from the time I go to bed until the time I wake up every day for the rest of my life. Wait a minute, I already do that.... :)

It seems reasonable to ask the world to be conscious about energy consuming, but the problem is that you can't never save too much. Google launched "blackle", the same search engine but with a black screen. According to their calculations, if everybody in the world using google used blackle instead there would be a saving of thousands of kilowatts/hour etc.

So the next step should be: why don't we everybody use the computer one hour less every day? The savings would be enormous.
Next step: why don't we shower ourselves less? If we can live with it, there should be a lot of savings in water and energy consumption. The same goes with car washing.
Next step: why don't we go to bed one hour earlier everyday? Not will only sleep better but there would be a lot of energy saving in TV's, computers and light consumption.
For the same reasoning, switch off every other street lamp. Then, exercise will be forbidden for the stupid consumption of oxygen. If people want to lose weight, they will be forbidden to eat more than their daily caloric intake.

I read a book called "the undercover economist" by Tim Harford. He mentioned that he once went to a forum about environment. At the registering boot he was asked where did he come from. "What for?" asked him. "Well, we calculate the impact in the environment of every attendant coming here and will plant as many trees to counteract the negative impact, thus making this forum environment-safe. "In such a case, why holding the forum in first place?".

My wife read by the light of a single antique oil lamp in the house, while I had all the lights blazing in the shop working on my 750. Well lets face it..... there are certain priorities.

sometimes the ignorance is blinding...  :-\

we calculated how much it was that we shut down... including the stereo (at half volume) and computer...

!!! 2500 watts !!!

why do you guys fight for an amp here or an amp there on your bikes but you won't even consider it for the earth?   ???
although, i still must offer a huge thank you to those that do care.

There was a note from my boss this morning that some lady came into the store at about 8:30 last night to #$%* him out for not shutting our lights off for that hour.  The kicker is that she was DRIVING her CAR around during that time for no other reason than to go into places of business to accuse them of not caring about the environment.  Yes, sometimes the ignorance is very blinding....

The funny thing is, the company I work for does more every single day than any other corporation of it's size does in a whole year to reduce energy consumption and landfill waste, yet we get #$%*ed out for not participating in a token gesture scheme. ::) ::)

And before you ask, yes, we did have our lights and electronics turned off at home during that hour, but only because we went to bed early. ;D  But we also do more on a daily basis to reduce our consumption than most Americans do, so I don't feel the need to take part in a gimmick that's designed to make habitual over-consumers feel all warm and fuzzy inside because they did something for the "environment".

i'm sorry but a token gesture is not 2500 watts for one hour!

that is 3.353 horsepower for an hour!     :o

at least thats what this chart says.

ok... so i just did the math... based off of our most recent bill.
we saved 10 cents!
population of the earth = 6.6 billion
ok, that would be ridiculous to ask everyone... let's drop that to 500 million
500 million times 10 cents = oh god, how did i ever get this far in this calculation?   ;D

well, wasn't aware of the earth hour.  I'd like to think the power I use is green (at east there aren't any coal powerplants around that I know of) There are 3 windfarms in our valley and one is only ~10 miles from me.  I've heard most of it gets sold to California were it is worth the most, but we use a little of it here.  I agree alot of ppl play'n energy police spend more energy doing so than they save.  Every little bit helps but when you look @ the bigger picture, there is so much power that is used for manufacturing and other high demand uses that it probably only slows the consumption by a fraction of a percent.

I should work on how much I use though, if only to save a lil' $$ for my cb750 engine rebuild! (I'm not too worried about the Earth as you might guess)  I'll admit I'm a major power waster.  I  leave 1-3 computers on @ all times, lights don't always get turned off when I go to bed (sometimes I just don't go to bed until it's light out  8).  And the only vehicle I own that get's more than 12mpg is the cb750.

I just feel that the earth has systems of it's own that will take care of everything (and in the process probably wipe any evidence of our existence off it's face).  I mean really we're just a tiny insignificant drop of spittle on the face of the planet.  It will keep spinning and doing it's thing long after humanity blows it's self into oblivion.

kinda depressing I know.. Actually I just like to push the buttons of those out there that think they can make it all better.

but we could start.   :-\
i'm a waster too!  my budget is 400 per month in fuel and with my current commute, i use every bit.   :'(

That brand new 7L V10 Dodge may actually polute less than your cb350,

We had a 2004 Ford Exploder for awhile. According to the emission test, the air it blew out the tailpipe was cleaner than the air than it sucked in.  It used too much gas though, so I sold it to someone else so they could improve the environment with it.

Lets just mangle this blue ball we call a planet and get it over with....

Seriously I had no idea there was a day or a procedure......

I figured I was doing my part riding my 350. I used 2.6 gallons of gas this week.

The thing about our bikes is that fuel economy does not reflect exhaust emmissions. That brand new 7L V10 Dodge may actually polute less than your cb350, so driving that V10, athough consuming more than it's share of our depleteing NON renuable esources, could actually be better for the enviroment. EGR valves, catalytic converters, variable displacement engines, variable valve timing, computer control, urea injection (blutec) and thats just gasoline, variable geometry turbochargers, egr valves, egr coolers, particulate filters, urea injection, computer control and catalytic converters for diesel, all stuff our bikes don't have. (not to mention hybrids and alternative and biofuel)

Now, if you want to make an ecofreindly cb, replace your carbs with fuel injection, slap a catalyic converter on it and run ethanol or some other biofuel. Not to mention that the energy used to make our bikes was a good investment as they are still around.

Thats ok I could drive my CB350 till we run out of oil for the amount of energy it took to BUILD that Dodge V10... ;D
