Topic: A New VF45 to the stables??

1 question..... What is the best price to offer??

I have the chance to buy a 85' Honda V45 Sabre with only 9k miles

He's asking $1700 obo and has been sitting on this since last August!!!

Here's a nice tasty pic of her. If I buy her, this will be my 5th bike. And I'm really pushing it with a 2 car garage with 2 cars already

If he's had it on the market since August, it must not be very sought after.

I think it looks OK.

Offer him half and work from there.

Usually the V45 Magna and Interceptors are much more sought after bikes of the V4 family

Nice bike!

Might want to check and see what parts are still available from Honda. I heard that Honda is running low on engine parts for some of its bikes from the 80's. Not certain though, but worth checking now.

Cams?? I thought the 84' and up had been fixed by Honda?

Yeah, the Interceptor and Magna (v65 only) are more sought after....but the sabre looks like a nice
sport cruiser.

NO, what I meant was that he's had this bike since last August. He's just recently posted it again for sale.

Half, uh.....sounds like a good idea, but I sure hate when the seller gives you the "Stink" eye. lol

you would be much better off offering him around $1500..not as insulting and is about typical value of the V4 bikes in good condition. As for the cams with only 9000 ks on it..i wouldnt worry much about them. Now would be a great time to fit the bike with an oiler mod. Other then that ensure you start it up and let the bike warm  up properly prior to any hard riding. As well as you would know with having your Interceptor the V4 bikes require a bit more frequency for oil changes. But yea somewhere during 84 they improved the chain driven cams...85 they had them pretty fixed for the most part however they must have been still having enough problems to change to gear driven cams in 86.

Yeah, that's a good point about the gear driven cams.....Now to only find on the internet, info on what the oil mod required...

And for the most part, my babe Interceptor is still out of commision. The PO really messed up the cams and heads, and I did get the front 2 cylinders installed perfectly, but I didn't look at the 2 in the rear. I know I'm gonna pay for that

Still looking for a good motor for my VF500. If you know anybody, please drop me a line.

Stink-eye, shmink-eye.....  it's YOUR money.  And, even if he IS insulted, if you go up, he ain't gonna turn you away!

My father-in-law is a master at this.  He'll offer 50% of asking on whatEVER it is - car, motorhome, house, etc.  

All they do is say no, but an astonishing number of times, he'll ultimately get the item for less than I would have even STARTED at...

That all being said, I'd start at $1000 and in my area, for the condition it looks to be in, I'd be willing to go right on up to the $1700.

DarkRider, what are you, the seller's brother-in-law or something?    $1500 is way too high a STARTing price.  That's more like a good ending price.

Nah...just an experienced VF series bike owner. As said..its the typical value of a VF V4 powered bike in excellent condition such as that Sabre.

Info on the oil mods for loops..

Hey Loops, log on to http://www.vfrworld.com and go to the first and second generation forum.  You should find some good stuff on the oil mods there.  I rode a V65 Sabre a couple of days ago.  Cool bike.
