Me too as I get on I seem to feel more keenly, others sacrifices, I suppose it's because just after I got in I got my face punched in for being a mouth piece and had to go to Sunny Brook hospital ( the old vets hospital) to get my horn rebuilt and being the Air Force just after getting it straightened the nurse handed me a broom and said go clean the floor over there, which was the damaged wing you know the ones that were quads, the ones that were blind and crippled even some first world war vets that had been gassed and were slowly drowning in their own juices, at 17 I started become aware how much I owed the poor buggers there and how bloody good I had it, so children, remember all the dates and people VE day VJ day etc.

I may not your experiences but i do have the respect, father, grandfather uncles etc made sure of that.
Learned of hardships when i was young too, stayed with my grandparents for a while when i was a little bloke, grandpa grew up on the goldfields and lived just as hard and nanna still kept house like rationing was on lol.
Cheers
