the terminator
« on: April 03, 2008, 10:00:04 PM »
ok call me lame, 24 years behind the times, whatever. i just saw the terminator for the first time tonight and i couldnt help but notice that, at one point the governator is riding what appears to be an sohc 750 cafe bike. it had stock 4 into 4 pipes on it, what looks liek a dunstall seat and a viper 1/4 fairing.

Let me the only person who will not have a field day over your mysterious oversight. I really believe once you adjust to the 80's feel this is one of the BEST Sci-Fi stories.

Anyway, I have some screen caps (am I saying that right?) of the bike with Arni astride and if I can figure out how to get them from my file to this thread I'll do just that. Help anyone?

It is a SOHC 750 BTW.

"James Cameron originally envisioned the Terminator as a small unremarkable man, giving it the ability to blend in more easily. As a result, his first choice for the part was Lance Henriksen. O.J. Simpson was on the shortlist but Cameron did not think that "such a nice guy could be a ruthless killer " (wikipedia)
i just KNEW that was a cb750 sohc.  seeing as the film was made in 1984 i'd wondering if there was some sort of personal motive for selecting what was a dated motorcycle.  someday i hope to meet james cameron and when i do, that'll be the first thing i'll ask!  "why the honda??"

Thats pretty cool, the last time I saw the terminator was long before I got my cb750, so I never noticed it.  In doing some research for it, however, I found this site:

Honda cb750 in the movies.

Also, some other site said the motorcycle was probably so old because it wasn't provided by honda, but by a local customizing place.

That's pretty interesting! I wonder if that's why they used a more average person in T2 rather than a muscle guy.

rugger, I would imagine that's probably right about having a local shop supply the bike. Remember that this was a budget film- unlike the next two.

LOVE Mad Max (1&2... not 3)!! It's been re-released with out the American dubbing.

ecosse - that's exactly why robert patrick was selected as the T-1000.  arnie wanted to be the 'good-guy' while james cameron was more than willing to go back to his original concept of the terminator.  at least that's what i've read.  in my humble opinion, arnie was THE terminator, though the hot chick inT-3 was pretty nasty herself.  i never did warm up to robert patrick as the ultimate killing machine.

One issue I had (only one?) with T3 and the killing chick. I'm sick of the contrived device of having a girl who kicks ass in movies to draw in 15 year old boys with a kink for such things. Just look at all the TV and movies where a 90 pound woman beats the tar outta one or more 200 lb. guys. Yeah, that's stupid.

it was the 4 into 4 pipes that caught my eye. i had a fairing like that when i first got my 750k, tossed it because it was so floppy.

That fairing looks very similar to the one you can buy from JC Whitney and other places. Maybe a real Terminator nut could build a replica.

I've sat on that bike mate, it was a "hot rod show" regular for a few years, I wonder what happened to it? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nice, I just re-watched Mad Max a couple of weeks ago and was noticing that CB750.  At the end of the scene it roars off into the distance, boy did it sound nice :)
