i am really liking this fairing/flyscreen. anybody have a lead?!

I like it too, but no idea where it is from. Looks a bit like Suzuki GS or BMW R, but not quite.

2) that fairing is a thing of beauty! but the prices i see for some of them tempts me towards attempting a home made effort.

 Probably the first 100 mph bike in the world, and it still is in the Curtiss Museum today...

 I believe the 8 did not go into production as a bike engine, but did see widespread use as an aircraft engine...

 Pretty cool stuff...

It should be noted that although they do cost $450 bucks, they are hand crafted alloy, not fiberglass.

 OK, I retract my statement. Them silver painted heads look like alloy in the posted pic.
 I clicked the link, managed to see the other side of the heads.. while I was looking, my aged computer..got me kicked off the site.. >:(
