That's a nice treatment right there

How long do you think this guy can get away with using a thin piece of steel as the top of his triple? And how did he secure it?

Seriously, I'd like to know cause it looks like a good idea.

It's captured underneath both fork nuts and the steering stem nut.

And I'm just going to show off some ignorance here - did he thread the tops of the forks to do that or, if you wanted to do that with a CB would you have to jerry rig a free standing clamp?

Wait, got it. Under the fork caps. Let me digest that for a minute  ;D

So the clip-ons are locking the bottom and whatever is sandwiched under the caps is holding the top?

Some forks from other bikes are that way OEM. I'm not sure what we are looking at are CB forks.  The others I have seen actually have a little threaded bit on the top of the tube that sticks up thru the top bridge in an interference fit and the nut tightens down on it.

If CB, then that top bridge would have very large holes in it for the stock bolt to go thru, and the thickness of the bridge would limit how many threads the bolt is catching. I think its not a CB fork and it was designed to be that way.  Pretty obvious those are not CB nut/bolts on top.

I could make caps for stock forks, and a tree to get that look. unless the cap is overlength it will shorten forks about an inch.

Harley wideglides use the same system, need an accurate shoulder on the fork nut to positively locate in the top tree..

so i just got back from my local dealership .. and got to see one of these in person ...and man , i was impressed ..  i don't usually like this kinda of bike, but i saw soooo much potential in it , now i really want one

2010 ER-6n

I rented and rode one of these when I was in Sweden for three weeks last summer. I've got to say that I was a bit skeptical of the bike before I rented it, but honestly It really was quite nice. It just felt right and had enough power to move along at a nice clip.

Says 53 Guzzi - wish this one had some backstory I could find cause it's clearly got some kind of pedigree.

Oh internet, is there anything you don't know?  :D

Moto Guzzi 500 Four 1953

1953 GUZZI FOUR. An interim development in the 500 c.c.
I-1 class between their 1200 twin, which had been raced since the
early thirties, and their famous Vee-eight was the four-cylinder machine, with its crankshaft in line with the frame, introduced by the Italian Guzzi factory in 1953.

It scored its first victory, in May of that year, at Hockenheim track in Germany where Enrico Lorenzetti won at a record average of 10780 m.p.h., the lap record going to Fergus Anderson on a similar machine at 113-27 m.p.h.
Notwithstanding its impressive debut, the machine turned out to be virtually a failure, suffering from a succession of retirements and "non-starter" trouble—one of the few post-war Guzzi racers that haven't been all conquering!

Technically the machine was very interesting; it was the first four-inline to be raced in modern times (F.N. had similar models in the 1908 T.T.!) and, by virtue of its crankshaft's disposition, the choice of shaft final drive was obvious. The drive shaft casing actually formed one "leg" of the rear pivoting-fork suspension. Front suspension was similar to that of the "250" racer from the same factory.

The engine had no carburetters—fuel was injected direct into each inlet port. No megaphones were fitted to the four separate exhaust pipes, all tucked in under the rider's left foot.
For 1954 the machine had full "dustbin" style streamlining and a frame that was nearly identical with the factory's 500 c.c. single-cylinder model—which was to prove more of a success than its complicated brother.

SPECIFICATION
Engine: four-cylinder-in-line 500 c.c. d.o.h.c; water-cooled; gear drive to overhead camshafts. Ignition: magneto.
Transmission: shaft drive via gearbox in unit with engine.
Frame: multi-tubular "space-frame" with engine unit forming part of structure; swinging-fork rear suspension. Forks: leading link.

"F.N. had similar models..." ....Fabrique Nationale? the Belgian gunmakers??  Interesting...but I guess not unusual, since Birmingham Small Arms and Enfield also made bikes..

Hunh, so Benelli split a company off in 1967 to make guns as well. This caught my eye cause it looks pretty familiar - turns out it is  ;D

Benelli SEI 750
The Benelli 750 Sei is a motorcycle that was produced by Italian manufacturer Benelli from 1972 to 1978. It was the first production motorcycle with a 6-cylinder engine.[2] The engine was based on the four-cylinder Honda CB500, but with two extra cylinders.[3] The cylinder head fins of the Sei were squared off to provide a cosmetic individuality, but otherwise the engine is in most respects obviously derived from the Honda. The "angular, bold design" was by Carrozzeria Ghia.[4]
