I installed a complete front end on my '74 CB750 (forks, wheel, caliper, rotor, master cylinder and fender) from a '80 Yamaha XS650 last year and just recently added the 16" rear wheel from the same model.

The front wheel is a 64 spoke model from the XS650 Heritage Special with a new rim and spokes, which I proudly laced myself! (Three tries and 4 beers). The matching rear wheel is a 48 spoke rim from the same model.

I wanted the better brake on the front from the Yamaha and the look of the 64 spoke rim. The rear idea was to get that newer look of a 16" tire. I had to use a new sprocket on the rear wheel, so I decided to change the front sprocket as well. While I had the covers off, I took them to a shop in Charlotte, NC called "H & H Polishing and they did a fantastic job.

Pete,
I love that paint job on your 750.  Did you do that yourself?

Ron, no I didn't. It's one of those rare instances where the PO "did good". In fact the tank was in the paint shop when I bought the bike.

It's either one-off stuff or something non-Honda appropriated to fit.  Note: the tank is a non-Honda tank, as well.

Hope the chain doesn't stretch...   Not much room for adjustment left...  It's the little things on some of these builds that drive me crazy.  Great looking bike, but is it go, or show?

Out of all things, you choose the chain length to drive you crazy? Something that can be swapped out in 20 min? Bigger picture man.

Different strokes for different folk I suppose. I do agree with you on that chain, no one can argue that. But the time and talent it took to shape that seat cowl, retro fit that (I think Kawasaki) tank, rearset layout, ect....takes precedence over a ill-fitting chain. It doesn't void the designers talent.

Ditto. It's all about the details that prove something is, or isn't designed to be used (ridden in this case). Fully thought through is far more difficult and elegant in my opinion, than "looks cool".

I agree about the chain adjusters. Looks like you could take out a whole link (or two depends on your definition) and it would still have some slack. Also the cotter pin is missing from the axle, this is a big no-no in my book.

Can't help but notice these and then a lot of the magic is gone.

Granted, cable actuated DLS drum brake is way cool.  But, same on front? No disc?

That is "Old School" and well done, very cool.  How about the shift lever on the right side?  I have an old Ducati with right side shift in the reverse pattern (up for first, down for the rest of the gears).  Every once in a while I get in a hurry and down shift when I intended to up shift.  Gets real exciting for a few seconds!  Anyone able to ID the rear brake?

DLS drum? ??? I did a bit of a search and came up with some guys trying to set one up on an older Husqvarna... Looked like it was a drum with two shoe-spreading cams. But I still don't know what it is / stands for. Can you help me out?

Actually in this case 2 shoes but still double leading. It looks like 36 spokes so may even be a front hub. Looks like a Honda backing plate but not CB77, CB450 maybe?
