The sobering thing is that someone put a lot of work into that...

Nobody said it was worthwhile.  It's just so damn absurd -- huge car light housing and no need hyperextended intake -- that the someone couldn't have been serious at all. It borders on Photoshop.
Neither am I. That's why I found it sobering--the front brakes, the belt drive--someone thought these things through (well, not through through, :P but enough to conceive and execute the concepts). That much work for ... Yeah, I can't even finish the sentence. I don't quite want to call it an abomination (my project isn't done yet; 'glass houses and throwing stones' comes to mind), but my mental dictionary doesn't have the right word at the moment. 'Absurd' is a good description.

Yes, I'll be so glad when that Firestone trend shrivels up and DIES!
Doesn't matter how the nice the build is, once they put those tires on, it goes right in the Clown car category.

Just out of curiosity. How do you guys feel about those tires on a model A or a rat rod? I know they are period correct but surely there are better tires for any hot rod now a days. That said I have ridden a bike with tires similar to those and it did not encourage high speed riding but hey, sometimes you just want to cruise. I wouldn't have them personally but I guess I am confused about the total disdain for them. Flame away. I can take it :)

With respect to Firestones on an SOHC, for cruising they're fine. Problem is, SOHC motors want to rev and be wound up. That is not consistent with cruising. So they're incompatible choices (in my opinion) for these bikes.

Perfectly fine for cars as you have 4 wheels and a completely different reliance on the profile for cornering and steering.

Firestones, Where do I start, have a look at the shape for a start, try and find any modern {last 40 years} tire that is shaped like that, then try and find one with that type of tread pattern, they track badly {follow grooves in the road}, that front set up would make it handle like a truck, they make it feel like you are falling off the tire going round corners and they slide without warning, now before you think "he was probably going too fast", I was on a cb450 going about 30MPH, lent into a corner and just slid, real sharp and fast too, without warning, they would be down right scary in the wet. Considering good tires and suspension can save your life I have to wonder why anyone would want to put these on a regularly ridden bike.... {I don't like them either}   ;D ;)

I get that and agree. They aren't my choice/style either but at the same time I would not be afraid to ride around on a set. I would not want to do a day long ride through the twisties. I just think it's the new "style" to bash. When I started on here many years ago the bashing was for the cafe group. Now it's moved on to whatever that style is called. I have evolved into a function over form guy but I still get it. Some like vanilla some like chocolate. I like strawberry.

It's not about bashing style.  It's about safety and good common sense.

Mick, I get it and agree. I would say I am an average rider. I have ridden with really fast guys with a lot of track experience and plenty of guys who just gawk around. Those guys never see the edge of the tire or anywhere near it. Again. Not the tire I would ride or choose but it is apparently some guys idea of a cool liking bike.

They change the way a bike handles for the worse. I was in town, out side a supermarket turning left on a nice cambered 3 lane corner when the tires just let go, from then on, I had to change the way I road that bike until I got rid of the tire, I don't like them what so ever, its nothing to do with how they look, I get the look thing too, I just don't get why people would potentially put their lives at risk to "look cool", I'm all about safety on a bike {we need all the help we can get} and not in a "touchy feely way", I'm might just be a little weird but I like my bikes to go, stop and handle well, so when some f-wit cuts me off, the bike and I have the best chance of pulling off an evasive move, predictably... ;D ;)

Let me fix that for you; I'm inspired to ride on tires that improve the handling and safety of my motorcycle. Nothing looks cooler than being upright on a motorcycle. (Road rash belongs in the Abomination thread).

My 85 year old pal. I helped him pull these 3 bikes out of his basement. They were last winters projects. All 3 registered and ready to ride. He has been riding since 1946.
