after havoc clued me in i wondered if they were available to racers only. a quick google and found a guy on a forum selling one for about 10.5 k. the post was a year old.

but now they have the xr1200 street legal version i wanna get it so baddd
gotta say i dig those a bunch. thankfully hd decided to sell 'em here.

Harley Davidson XR1200 Trophy series (bbq series, in spain)

What would be the benefits of going from 2-1-2 exhaust? Did I miss something?

Back in the 1990's I hung out with Pat Conroy who raced XR750's in the vintage class.  I actually went to Daytona in 99 to pit for him.  The XR motor is very cool.  This new XR1200 looks nothing like the vintage 750 I recall.  Seems to be more in name only.

Pat admitted the XR was old tech and the CR750's were much more capable.  The only way he could beat one was to hope for them to break or crash.  It was very hard to outride any decent racer on a CR

looking for info about the spanish, italian, brit xr1200 race series i found a company selling bits, and who built this thing.

as for 2-1-2 exhaust i think it's a packaging thing only.

I almost bought a HD XR1200R when I was in Germany. it's a beauty but it sounds like #$%*. IMO

then there's this.

That is a real XR.

What is this XR1200 thing?  Seems like taking a cool name and badging it on something irrelevant, like GM did with the new GTO

i wouldn't call the newer gto irrelevant. the only consistent criticism i ever heard was that it either didn't look bad @ss enough, didn't look retro enough, or whining about treading on a 'historic' name. when in its original australian guise, journalist and enthusiasts alike were in fits of ecstasy over it, and begged for it to come to the u.s. well, we got it, and gm was rewarded by (imo) narrow minded complaints.

this xr1200 may be leaning on a name with cashe, but when is that a new thing? all reports give this a nod for being hd's best street sporting effort, and a convincing one at that. they're apparently selling quite well in a part of the world that loves to poke holes in american offerings in this segment. if we b!tch too much hd will think "gee, guess selling performance bikes in the states is a waste of time." let's crank out another road pillow.

i'm leary of digging up old names for the sake of sales. but if the thing is good it's less of a sin. how critical would we be if they threw on another name?  rip the decals off then.

lets asian this up a bit.

Here's another Egli-Laverda. This one is owned by Marnix van der Schalk from The Netherlands; he was also timekeeper for the Laverda team at SPA.

Previously, I've not been a huge fan of Fritz Egli, primarily because I find most of his designs technically interesting but visually awkward and, occasionally, gimmicky. This is an incredibly elegant exception, IMHO... Brilliant! RR

I was put on Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!

A  former buddy of mine I ride with way back has a quite tricked out XR 1000cc it also lives in a museum, the Dellyey Museum..

The first bike is Euro or Brit, cant ID it..

The bathroom hanger looks  sorta like a Reading Standard, or Excelsior, but hard to tell at that angle..

That is a  very nice Mustang, the red & white one.. cool bikes.

 The Whizzer is a J model, probably 48 or 49.. ;D

the bathroom hanger is a unrestored hd board  tracker it still leaks a little oil every once in a while

Bike parts make good house decorations.  I got a dirtbike seat in the living room ontop of the tv stand and got a set of dirtbike bars hanging in the bedroom.  And well some dirtbike helmets and jerseys too.  The girlfriend don't like it but hey can't use them their specail.  Some signed some not.
