An old school XR? is that what you mean?
if you start off with the racer, if lucky enough to find one, you have to add a charging system..

Or do you mean the 80s street version?  both are cool bikes..

The street XR I mentioned, the owner took it out of the museum, got together with another guy here that has a nice original XLCR, and they rode both of them to Sturgis.. cool huh?

I had to laff tho, when the XR was new, he would go on and on, about how torquey it was (also is a cb750 rider). Anyway one day he came by with it, and we went for a spin, I was on an 86 in shovel, so we were riding along and he nailed it, as did I.. He turned around to see how far back I was and couldnt see me, because I had stayed right with him.. he didnt like that..

Awwwwww.....  Isn't it cute?

they usually come in a litter of six.  ;D

so, 754, i know almost nothing about hd's. is the xlcr just a street version of the xr? that motor looks a lot like the racer to me. was it a homologation special?

Used to be.... and it might not apply to flat track (i wasn't around then) that you needed a select number of chassis/motor combos on the street in order to qualify for use in racing.

Nothing to do with an XR

Standard single carb motor, rumoured to be carefully assembled maybe blue printed.. just a regular sporty mill. XR is a dual carb  motor with diff cases and flywheels & rods.
It does have factory Morris mags and the XR type tail, also first of the siamese exhaust, and I think that frame was not  the standard frame till 78 or 79..
I always thought its letters made it self-explanetory..

That is a real XR.

post 2182: this bike has dual carbs and looks to me like the race mill. ??? that's why i wondered if it was a street version of the racer.

Pic in #2180, now I see the 2nd carb, sorry.. my eyes are getting bad.

Either an XR1000 street motor or top-end on a CR lower.. they were crinkle black.
 Bodywork is CR

i wonder if that motor has a different engine note compared to a regular harley twin.

HT, this is Lorcan on the drag bike Storm, a few teething problems but will be a fast bike when sorted, it runs 2 turbos.
