Yeah, it's the most motorcycle looking car engine bikes I've ever seen. Usually when somebody puts a car engine in a bike they look weird.

Oh but a joyous 50 miles it would be!

In the original article the builder said that if he did it again he'd use Alfas 2.0 4 cyl as it would be a bit more manageable.

Rat 400F, you may be in luck...

..seeing as I am the "Master of McGyverish Machinations"..

..I may be able to walk you thru, building your own girder, WITHOUT a milling machine

You will need a fairly good drill press, table saw, Good router, a few other bits. Also Alum flat bar is available in 5 inch widths, i would not go less than 5 x 3/4 ".

Let me know if interested , I think this is doable..

I certainly appreciate your offer and I will most likely take you up on it at some point in time. I build cabinets out of my garage for a living so I have all the things required to make jigs and mill out parts. I figured I'd just make the main sections of the fork legs out of wood and then use that as a template to form the actual aluminum legs with a pattern bit in my router. I've already done this on a small scale to make little brackets.
I was also thinking I might use Aluminum that is around 1 1/4" thick. This is going to be a bar hopper so I'd rather end up heavy and strong than week and light.
As far as the pivot points go I was thinking I would use SS axles, sealed bearings and bolt it all together similar to how hubs are done with a spacer in between everything.

I'm hoping to get the Aluminum in the next week. I'll be sure to post pics in the thread I created.
I do need ideas for the shock or spring, something with about 2" of travel and cheap.

You may not like the 1 1/4 price..

I wood try a thinner piece for first try for a few reasons.
I would probably use CrMo for shafts and Bushings, for the pivots.. for several reasons..

First, original girders used bushings.
Second, you can buy an affordable, drill & reamer to make the bushings work.. bearings may require machine shop time.

Key to doing this.. MAKE SURE both pcs are Dowelled together while drilling axle, and pivot holes.. the rest is just........

"removing all the metal that does not look like the piece"

The girder is in there, just got to carve away the outer covering..

i'm sorry, but i've seen this article before and some of the bikes in there are HORRIBLE!!. about the only thing i enjoyed looking at was the attention on the motors, the rest was nasty. def. an inspiration for me to NOT make my bike look like that, haha!! if you have the rest of those pictures from the article, post them!

I posted pics after last years grease-o-rama, looks like he has not changed much since last year. This bike is hunting me cause I want a single sided swing arm, single shock honda twin and this bike keeps popping up. Just found out in june that my EX knows him and picked up a 400 twin off him for dirt cheap. Obviously she wont trade one of my 550's for it.. shhh wheres the love.
