Their is a H U G E custom moped scene here in Chicago..

Yeah  ::)  I love riding right up on them as they take up the whole front of the intersections.  I think they look cute with their Oakley frogskins and Nike dunks for protection.

HAha I have had that experience a few times too. I like how the look in their eye when I go by seems to project, my moped is cool but that guy's motorcycle is cooler. :'(

A bunch of those Hard Knock guys parked next to me at the last Backfiremoto event. Their bikes are about as big as my 400 but my 400 will do 100mph and their bikes will do 38. hehe

Love the tiddler bobbers..too funny.  I'm sure they're a blast to run around town on.  I attend several rallies around the Seattle area every year, and one in particular, the VME club sponsors every year on Father's Day.  The Tiddler Tour, vintage 250cc bikes and smaller, but it also used to bring out the Mosquito Fleet, a club of Moped owners.  Some of those babies were highly modified and really a lot of fun.  Lately, though, they haven't been attending.  The rally just isn't as much fun w/o them.

I've had some PM requests to post a few more pics of my 550F.  Thanks, I'd be glad to.

So, are you using the stock air box as a manifold that a K&N filter is hooked up to? Give us some specs?

I hear ya, when I first started seeing them around I thought they were a group of very creative custom builds based around some engine that could be sourced easily. Once I found out that they were just kits with fancy paint and eight ball shifters I lost a little respect.

I've always found that a Honda just runs better with a stock air box.  Rather than run a stock air filter, the K&N was modified to be on the outside.  The rest of the engine other than removing the starter and alternator and the Kerker exhaust is stone stock.  Lots of one-off pieces, hand made rear sets, clip ons, brake control rod, muffler hanger, engine covers, fairing and tach mounts, a widened Yamaha front fender mounted backwards for the rear subfender, vented rear hub, dual disks with the calipers at the rear, laid down Boge Mulholland shocks, progressive springs in the forks, a hand made fork brace and a few other tid bits here and there.  A lot of the aluminum machine work was done by the gentleman I bought it from.  He was an artist with a lathe and a milling machine.  I fabbed the tail from scratch in fiberglass, made the seat, and painted everything.  I got this as a rolling chassis, and it only has about 20K on it.  Runs and handles great.

Those are pretty hard to find in the northeast, they're all vintage racers now.

did i miss what the fairing was...

The fairing came from a company called "Old Britts"  www.oldbritts.com  They're more a Norton aftermarket store, but the fairing is nice, and very affordable.  Great gel coat finish that can stay the way you get it if you want.  I did re-shape the windscreen a bit.

MB5's are getting pretty hard to find.  I looked for a nice one for a long time, then ended up trading a paint job for this roached out one.  Lost my butt on the paint job, but, I got an MB5.

This is the day I got it.

This is after I restored it and before the CR80 engine swap.  I just tucked the 50cc engine away.  It can be returned any time.

Spokane, Washington is where I live.  What I love about total loss is how much freer the engine spins.  It revs so smoothly and crisply w/o the starter and alternator.  You probably saw that with your 750, too.  I've had the 550 to a GPS-clocked 115 and it pulls to red line in 5th beautifully.  Really fun bike to ride. I have an on-off switch for the headlight and the brake light only works off the rear brake pedal. The tail light is LED's which helps immensely.  All in hopes of conserving as much juice as possible.  It also has two batteries.  A stock sized gel battery that mounts in a fabbed bracket next to the K&N filter that's easy to take on and off.  It also has an auxiliary battery that's really small and mounts below the swing arm.  I can get an hour out the small one, and a good 8 hours on the main. 5 if using the headlight, so plenty of time to ride at night, too.  I just plug it in after a ride and it's ready to go again the next day.

Yeah, taking 3.5 lbs off the crank makes a big difference.. ;D

I did not run 750 on the street but had a Kawi 900 chopper for a while, didnt charge so I ran toal loss around town in daytime.. when it started to miss, I would diconnect the brake switch, and head back to the shop & recharge it..
