I think it's an original pic from back in the day, I'll see if I can get some more of the same bike. What I don't get is how the valve cover is chromed but has the inlaid gold patterns on it as well - unless it's gold leaf; but that wouldn't last very long.

I believe there is a two step process of chroming that will let you do what he did. First the chrome then back to do the gold, brass, etc.. Can't remember what its called but I am betting that's what was done. You are correct gold leaf would not last very long.
