Those peanut cut-down sportster tanks look great, but you'd be stopping for gas every 30-40 miles... :'(
Other than that though, I love it.

Not a big fan of choppers & bobbers, but this is one I do like.  Have to agree with JIIS though, you'd have to plan your rides based on gas station locations. ;) :)

The brown seat 750 is on here in the last 2 or 3 pages..

The SR500, that is not a peanut tank, is a cut down Sportster tank. Peanut tanks look like....well, a peanut... not like a Sportster tank..

Dont need much gas around town, pretty sure the pack an auxilary tank or have a bigger tank for trips..

My bad, I always assumed that peanut referred to the size, not the shape.  ;D

Not entirely, at least not in my circles. I've always been of the mind that a Sportster tank is a peanut tank, as so:
http://www.justgastanks.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=595

It is a size (usually small, less than 2.5 gal) and shape. The Sportster tank is the holy grail of peanut tanks, at least where I was raised.

http://www.debrix.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=peanut+gas+tank

http://detroitbros.com/777/news/peanut-gas-tanks-in-stock/

Easy to have conflicting interpretations in matters of style.  :)

That may be a local slang term, but it will not make a Sporty tank, less of a Sporty tank.

Back to the bginnings, the 2 outer sides of fatbobs were cut and welded together with a filler up top, looked like a peanut, also known as axed Harley tanks, but you wont hear that so often..
Then Wassel came out with a similar tank, later copied by a Japanese company..and they look a lot like a peanut..

We for years here derisively, called them penis tanks, but that does not mnean they are in fact.. just a slang term..

Sometimes regional slang is plain wrong.. like on here.. see double butt bucket Touring seats, called King & Queen.. and its becoming common.. but its not correct..King & queen is a chopper seat with some sort of back on it..

I'm with you, like on the King and Queen story. Though I didn't know the back story of the peanut tank.

But with so many words, especially those describing a style, they are morphed into a wider interpretation from casual use, and there isn't anything we can do about it except grimace.   >:(   ;)   :D

Those links I provided are national in nature, so what may have been regional slang is now nationalized common use.

I admit to making this mistake...the double butt bucket touring style seat was on my bike when I bought it, and I always referred to it as a 'King & Queen'. Then about a week ago I did a Google search for 'King & Queen' seat and it came back with pictures of all those highback chopper seats. Made more sense to me once I put the picture with the name...

Looks like a throne.  ;D ;D

Thanks for the explanasion / history of the tanks JIIS.  I had always thought of there being 3 basic Harley tanks - Fat Bob, Standard, and Peanut.  The Peanut being an the optional one for the Sportster.  Learn something new on this forum every day. :)

Interesting...in all my yrs hangin around chopper types...never heard a sporty tank referred to as a peanut...peanuts are rounded top and bottom, sportys are flat on the bottom...and then there are the coffin tanks, which, oddly enough, look like a coffin. Peter Fonda's Easy Rider bike has a peanut tank on it..but that's not really a "King and Queen" seat..

Actually i can only find documentation of one. That is the one that burned at the end of the movie, and was rebuillt and is in a museum somewhere. The other (there were 2 of the Capn America bikes and 2 of the Billy bikes) was stolen before the end of the movie along with both Billy bikes. The one in the pic above is a repro in a German museum. The last campfire scene of the movie, shot out of sequence after the final crash scene of the movie, was filmed without the bikes in the background as they were gone by then. I know none of this first hand of course, just put it together from sketchy histories. Lot of drugs back then.   ;D

Same kind of twisted backstory to the Bronson bike as well.
