I agree with RR on the rear, but I'm curious if anyone else thinks the front might be the same? Hard to tell without a direct side-on shot, but both appear to be high-centered 16" rims. Can't compare to the rear wheel I've got from a harley as it is a 17", but just my 2 cents...

750 A trees are same width as the others I think, I have a set I can measure.
I have a Honda? 16 in rim with 110 tire I think..its off a 450 i think..has a beltdrive sprocket on it, and narrow 16 in rim, looks like a sohc 750 rim style.. I had thought of running it on the front

Okay, Frank, are you gonna lace it onto a CB750 hub? It's 40-spoke? I hope the answers are "yes"... When you get the tire off, measure the inside of the rim if you would. I don't suppose there's any way to id the source bike, is there?

I'm still looking for a source for 16" steel wheels.

BTW, yeah the Automatic front end looks like the same width as a CB750K and the triples are as ugly as a '78's. I thought the extra lower length might come in handy some day but I really haven't pursued the issue yet. RR

There was a seperate thread on that front end, I had posted to it.
The tire looks like an old/remake? of an Avon 5.00x16, that is a tall tire with a narrow side profile, it may fit where others will not.
Also you can grind a bit off your fork legs where the tire touches.. not recommended but if you only do it in that spot you still have 85% of the original strength.
I will check the rim today, it is size stamped, I think. I think its Honda..being belt drive narrows it down to only a few choices even including Kawi,, then its just order oem, or from a salvage yard.

Looks like a CD 175 to me.

Ricky Racer the rim is a J 16 x 2.15, the outer width of rim is 3.12 ish. With 120 on it the wide part of tire is just under 4 inch.
Now the bad.. 36 hole... but if you use a Yam XS 650 hub, a CB 750 rotor will bolt right on, may need a spacer

I've been staring at those photos for days... I think that they are the same size tires and rims. I originally thought they were 17's, but after searching around,
the tires definitely look like the Avon SM Mark II. (AV004) I have only seen those in one size - 5.00/16 I just can't imagine these fitting between stock fork triples.
I love this bike because everything is very close to stock - I mean not much in the way of frame mods etc. Just a loop in the rear.
I'm sure there is much that we don't see....

Thanks for the research and info, Frank. I guess I'll play around with a H-D sixteen I've got. If the 3" rim will squeeze into a set of stock width CB750 forks, getting it into a set of GL1000's should be a breeze. Too bad it's so hard to find a 16x2.15x40....

BTW, on a set of Rickman 41mm forks, it's hard to get anything wider than the standard 1.85 Borrani in there! Not much room for playing.

Out of all the old bikes I have ridden though the cx has best motor for power delivery vs cc's. It pulls like a much bigger engine in the low and mid range where you normally cruise but it still feels like a 500 in the top end. All in all a great engine to build a bike from, and one of the ugliest bikes honda ever made. Its quirky too which for me translates into character.

I have two interstate versions and find the design to be as reliable, smooth, relatively easy to work on, and economical as any Honda I've ever owned...Larry

They werent my words though. Something about the bike diving to the right when you let off the throttle? and a few other things. Definately a bike with character either way.

There will always be a torque reaction with an engine mounted this way, same as BMW, Guzzi, etc.

I was never a fan, but have heard these engines are bullet proof. In a stripped down state what do they weigh? It might make a great little endurance racer if that shaft could go....

Shaft wont go without a big fight. a few of those pushrod 500 running at Bonneville.

back to that 750, I am thinking.. maybe start looking at cruiser triple trees, they tend to be wider and they may be using a saet of one of them...

Owned a GL650I for 10+ years and there was definitely little to NO torque reaction. Keep in mind Honda has a proven record of being more innovative than Beemer or Guzzi or really any other bike manufacturer. Simple answer, they made the big, heavy clutch spin the opposite direction.

Gotta say about torque reaction on bikes..

I had a R 100 RT.. and I gotta say it.. you notice it the first few hours or rides... and after that......

its just not really noticeable...

.. its all part of growing up , methinks...
