Vintage Arthur Fulmer hard cases
« on: April 07, 2008, 08:38:57 PM »
I have a set of old fiberglass shell cases made by Arthur Fulmer of Memphis. I have no idea how old they are, but they came off of the '69 CB750 I parted out awhile ago.

I looked them over recently and they are in very good condition. The fiberglass they used on these is pretty thick and durable.

I am going to take them apart and refinish them. I am hoping I can fit them on the '78 750.

Anybody know anything about this brand? These are just like those at the top of this webpage.

They also made a not so bad helmet up until the early 80s.  I think they were around after that, but the quality suffered.  Cool looking bags.

I saw Fulmer helmets at the NYC Motorcycle show a couple months ago.  Seemed like nice quality.  They have junior helmets too.  They have a pink junior helmet with flowers that my 4 year old daughter went crazy over!!!

I recently sold a set of Wixom bags for my BMW, which Fulmer took on the production of in their later years.  The Fulmer version were apparantly made of thicker material and I think were better.

The bags are decent looking and streamlined.  I opted to go with good old Krausers for my touring needs as they're a little more utilitarian.  Solid plastic, no paint, open like suitcases and come on/off the bike much more easily.

The Fulmers are nice bags.  A decent set would be worth upwards of $200 with the brackets.

How does one go about cleaning up the surface of fiberglass before repainting? I have no experience with dealing with glass, and I sure as hell don't want to #$%* it up.

The inside looks pretty dirty. Water had accumulated inside. The good thing is that the fiberglass they used is really thick and seems durable. I see no cracks anywhere.

as for fitting them to the newer bike..one would would think you could probably use the brackets that came off of the bike that the bags came from.
