anyone in the insurance business??
« on: April 01, 2008, 10:26:26 PM »
Hello I'm looking to get some renter's insurance to cover my motorcycle, tools, computers etc. I really have no idea how this works and was hoping someone on here could guide me. I live in downtown san francisco, earthquake city.I work part time and I'm also a student so I don't have a lot of money. Any tips , suggestions and fun comments are gladly encouraged.

A Ruger 357 or 44 mag is always a good insurance policy. ;D ;D

honestly, you're gonna have to go and do the application yourself... so many factors for each individual make it hard to guess.
its a whole lot cheaper than you'd ever expect.

take pictures of everything.

go w/ a name you trust.

if they ask you leading questions (even on the internet)... think about them for a second... do you take extra measures for security?  they don't have to know what those exact measures are... i bet you do.   ;)
answering appropriately to certain questions can save you $$

thanks for reminding me though...  ;)

it does not cover motorcycles.  that is covered as theft under your auto insurance.
it does cover bicycles and scooters.

i just got a quote from geico and statefarm

geico cheapest quote was 191 a year
10,000 contents
100,000 liability

state farm was 125 a year w/ monthly payments available whereas geico only had 9payments at the most
20,000 contents
5,000 extra for business contents
100,000 liability

if people would just reply to my posts i wouldn't look like such a crazy person!   8)

when an insurance company requires all of my information to provide a quote... i go elsewhere, plain and simple.

that would be like me charging for an estimate to do a remodel.  you just don't do it.

I wish I would have had my tools insured years ago....all stolen. The $ wanted was close to 1/4 the price of the tools if I remember correctly, because I was in an apartment.

Now that I have a house they are covered under my home owners policy at a much lower rate.
good luck
