I know you guys aren't the chopper type, but...
« on: April 03, 2008, 01:06:24 PM »
Thought I'd throw up a mock-up shot of my CB350 chopper.  It was gonna be a bobber, but at 6'3" 255lbs I was too big so I changed directions to a 70's style chop.  Any thoughts?

Finally found the right tank for it.  It's a DAISHO copy of an old Wassell tank.  I've got Mikuni VM32's for it (courtesy of a great deal here on the board).  Fender is HD (subject to change, but I like it right now).  +6 CB350 frontend with external springs, billet top tree.  Lotsa fun comin' my way now.

Hey bro, looks like you got a good start on your vision. I did the same thing started as a bobber and then went with a chopper. Hey, when its home made you can do what  you wish, right?  Anyway I made a Honda CB350 chopper posted on my profile and Myspace. check it out you may get some ideas. I am over 6ft and have room to spare on mine with the modifications I did.  Love the pipes dude, and that's a #$%*in tank. Tank would also look good stretched a few inches.

I would get rid of the that seat if it were me. I never cared for that style seat. Just drop on a form fitting single seat and I think it would look much better.

That's just my personal opinion, do what you want.  ;)

I love the old king/queenish style seat on a chopper... It really dates the bike.  Sometimes that is not good but in this case its awesome.  I like the tank too.  ;D ;D

The tank's a definite at this point.  It was tought finding a tank short enough to fit the backbone, and with a tunnel deep enough to not look stupid.  Once I get it mocked up just the way I want it I'll grab some good daylight pics.  My shop is so dark...

JLeather, that is a cool tank, do you know what it came off of?  Just curious I would like to have one for my bobber project.

The tank isn't really "off of" anything.  Wassells were an aftermarket tank from the 60's/70's for triumph choppers.  The triumph has a really similar frame, short backbone that curves way down in front.  The tanks come up on eBay and such pretty frequently for around $100 for a decent one.  No one is making new ones right now to my knowledge.  If you've got a longer backbone Wassell also came out with a "Wassell Banana" tank that looks just like this one only stretched a few more inches.  Might be just what you're looking for.

The bike in this link has a Wassell Banana tank on it:

Bike's looking good, JL.  Have you considered arcing the exhaust pipes down towards the ground, sort of like this?

Slimbo is a really cool ride.  I liked this:  "My motivation was a rebellion against all fat-tired bikes. Skinniest tires I could find, named bike Slimbo."

BTW not all of us aren't the chopper type :D

JL, the early CL 350 tanks look pretty good on a chopper, they have the Supercool metal wing emblems set into them..
