Topic: !st gear not working

I have a 1972 CB750 that runs but !st gear seems not to be working right. The carbs need to be done so I can;t really gun it right now. It seems as if I am in second gear trying to take off. Once rolling, everything seems to shift fine. At a stand still, it seems as if first gear goes into place. I just want to know if there is something obvious before I start a full renovation or I'm looking at something major. Thanks for your input. Oil level is fine.

Not sure what you mean by "the carbs need to be done", but do at least go through and make sure all of the jets, etc...are clean..

Could you explain this a bit more?  Perhaps with more detailed explanation we could help you get back on the road in better condition
