Topic: Triple clamp stem nut warning light.

My CB500/4 has a red warning light built into the triple clamp stem nut, I have been told that my bike is a japanese market model and that the light comes on at 80 kph. I cant confirm this as it needs a new bulb.The bike was a secondhand import to the UK where it spent a few years before being imported to Ireland by myself.Could you shed some light on this?

Too help clarify for others.
I believe in my picture is the "light" your refering too on the center nut.
When my bike was originaly optained it had (Km/h Guages).. It could of been a imported bike..mine is a 1975 CB750F
The original owner I bought it from however had no facts of that.

Thats it,thats the one .My bike has kph gauges and i'm told its a japanese market model,i will get it working and post result.

There was another post about these on the forum a while ago, apparently it is a speed warning, when you hit 80 (i think) it lights up to stop you speeding......
So efective lol

To be more specific,

if this is not activated by the speedo, then it would have to be a pitot tube or similar.

So I will ask again, how is the light activated??

Japan speedos have the switch, the rest of the world does not. I think it's actually set to light at 100 km/h, all vehicles in Japan have this... in cars there's an annoying chime alarm. (they did 10 years ago, the last time I was there)

I had one on my "Japan Market" CB750 K4, but like most owners, the PO took the bulb out. With some re-wiring it'd make a great shift light!

I got a brand new one in my desk drawer and considering it has a brown/white wire and a green wire iu think it just comes on with the sidelights

The guy I bought mine from was a teacher who taught Engrish in Japan for two years, then brought the bike out to Oz, but he told me the same story, that it was a speed warning indicator.

I can't see how it'd be a running light, you'd only see it from directly above, and depending on how bright the bulb was, it'd be a hell of a distraction shining in your face at night. Anyone know anyone in Japan we can ask? Where's Nippon?
