Pods and Electronic Ignition Time.
« on: April 21, 2008, 01:02:31 AM »
So, as I bring my 78 K8 back from the dead I am faced with a new air filter system. I always believed it sticking to stock as much as possible but now its time to get more creative. I am possibly thinking on finding a similar automotive filter and modifying it, building a new one, or just switching to the pod filters.I refuse to pay what people are asking for a simple filter.

And also, I would like to ask here how the electronic ignition systems work out on the 750s. If I remember there was one guy here that rolled his own and I think that is the system I would like to try. If I can afford it anyway. This American economy is great for the poor creative...sigh

My K8 is coming along ok for now. Still messing with the carbs and hopefully I will be riding soon. Sure feels great just sitting on it again after she sat for eleven years dead. She is running, tho two carbs are still giving me minor grief..

I am more excited now with my 750 than if I was buying a new plastic disposable bike!

How about using one of the oval air filters they use on cars, a little modification to the base plate and you could fit it to the carbs easy enough. cheap and easy to replace the filter too.....

Yeah, next trip to the big city I will have a small tape measure and I will be doing some creative measuring in the automotive department. Good idea, Thanks!

Look for the ones meant for twin side draughts they are usually long and thin, if you are any good with metal you could look at some of the later style folded paper type filters and make a stainless casing for it, look through all the filters and let your imagination run wild.....
Or if you are really creative, look at hoses that will not collapse under the suction and you could place a filter to the side or below the carbs...
Good luck mate
Cheers

Sounds like you are refering to Hondaman's points triggered electronic ignition. I just installed one on my 550k last weekend. It really seemed to wake the bike up a bit. Starts easier than before, and runs crisper throughout the rev range. Probably nothing you could put numbers to, but noticable. Easy to install, I'd highly recomend. PM Hondaman for details.
