cb 360 info/help

ok, i had a few posts before, and i am just writing, first to thank you guys for the help, and second, get some info. i had a valve tappet come loose and fudge my cam chain. i sence replaced the chain and have everything correct according to the book. the valve clearence on the tappets is correct, the timing is right on, the chain is tensioned, and the cam shaft is lined up correctly.

it doesnt run. i tried ether, but i get some smoke through the carbs, like a backfire, but it isn't loud, and barely  oticeable. could i have a bent valve? it ran fine before i lost the tapppet, so i think if it is bent, it happened after. if i pull that plug (left side) and only run the right side, i get nothing either. i am lost at this point.

please, if someone has had a similar problem, which really sucks, i can use the help and advice. i am getting close to junking this bike, and like my roomate said, it is probably the best looking parts bike with a title in the world right now. funny. well......

thanks
mike

Mike,

Not sure if you saw it, but I responded to your post the other night.  From your current post is sounds like you've done all the right things.  Time to step back and look at the obvious.

As you mention, if you have a single bent valve it should only affect one cylinder and the other cylinder should fire.  That said, I'd go with your gut feeling and run a compression test.  That will tell you with some degree of certainty if the valves are working properly.  A new engine should be reading around 170 lbs., but you can operate with less than that.  The two cylinders should be within 10 or so pounds of one another.

Start there and let us know how it goes.
