lesson in the value of a dollar.
« on: August 09, 2005, 03:58:30 PM »
riding north on route 10 in Canajoharie Ny, i came up on a semi truck. now rt 10 is one of the curviest roads in a good driving distance so bikers love and frequent it. trucks however go rather slowly. and being its so curvy its not much for passing lanes. so if you get stuck behind a semi you just follow along and enjoy the upstate NY scene.

well i got to looking around at about 40 mph and heard a very very soft thump. all i got out was "#$%*." and i ran over the small skunk that the truck had just hit. it some how stuck just long enough to my front tire of my cbr 900RRto get half of its body wedged  inbetween my front tire and the front fender. and yes it already stunk. About the only thing sticking out was its head.

i got a glove and tried pulling it out. no good. i rolled the bike backwards. no good.  Rolled the bike backwards and pulled on the head...no good. By now the stink is undescribable. it took a large pair of vise grips to get that little pole cat out of the space. It was a gruesome feat.

got home and tried every thing to get that stink off of my bike. the skunk oil had impregnated the rubber of my front tire.  I took the bike evey where to get the tire replaced. the only guy that would do it wanted $150.00 just to take the tire off. It took 4 days to find some one willing to do the deed. I mean 4 days later it was just as strong as ever. they were the only ones willing to even do it.

after most things happen people no matter how trying people tend to be able to laugh at it after a while... it's been 11 years and that story still isnt funny to me.

Wait till one hits your dog.

No one wanted to let me replace the dog.

Wait till one hits your dog.

Wait till one hits your cat. Then have fun while trying to shower the cat, wearing full leathers and your full-face helmet. Then buy new leathers.

Or get a new cat.

I actually hit 2 dogs at one time :o
Felt real bad about it too `cause I think one was already hurt and the other one was trying to push it home down the street ;D
I had a cat run out in front of me once and it jumped up and went hissing by the side of my head, wish I would have had a helmet cam on to film that. Now if I would have hit it I could have sent it to my favorite Brewery ( see the Favorite Beer Forum Topic )

Being in NYC, I once ran over a rat. I felt very butch when I got off the bike and saw fur and blood on the tires. My friends were eeked out when I went to meet them.

tomato juice didnt work. I tried everything. I called Perelli and they said the tire was junk unless I wanted to ride with the smell. He said that anything that may be strong enough to get the oil out of the tire would most likely destroy the tire or at least make it unsafe.

You could have tied 20 or so of those pine tree car air fresheners on the spokes.  Then your neighbors would say "that old bike sure smells nice when you go by".
These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Well, talk about a stinking subject. That must have been the worst skunk story I've ever heard. Totally wasted tire eh? I have never hit a skunk, but while riding with some buddies in Nova Scotia at 95-100mph a few years ago, a couple of us clipped a dog. All of us stopped, but no injuries to us, just the dog could be heard yipping for a long ways. Bet he never chased a bunch of 12 riders doing 100+mph again.

This is my animal story, I was cruising on a nice little twisty along a creek.  I was on the inside of a 180 turn when a huge (20+lb) groundhog (woodchuck) ran out of the grass and I braced myself for the skid knowing the back wheel would brake free if not skid out.  Well I missed him!  I should say he mised me!  I felt him hit the back of the front wheel and it flipped him right on to the headers. he/she then jumped clear of the bike.  Sorry about the burns but we both made out better.
