MDI shocks
« on: March 06, 2008, 05:11:13 AM »
Anybody tried those MDI shocks from feeBay for around $80? I would think just being new would make them better than 30 year old stockers. Going on a '77 550k

I put a set of those on a 71 SL125 I was restoring and they were so stiff the suspension wouldn't budge at all with my 192 lbs . bouncing up and down on the seat. The quality seemed fine but the springs were just too heavy for that light bike I guess.  I would think they would be much more suited for a heavier SOHC.

I put a set on my 350F just recently but haven't had a chance to ride it yet.
I can say that they seem to be built pretty well and went on easy enough.  They compress around 2cm with my 170 pound self on there so hopefully I'll get some travel out of them when riding.
I'll update when I get out on the road.

thought i'd dig up this old post and report in, the mdi shocks i put on last winter are fine.

the overall quality is very, very nice.  chrome is excellant, fit was perfect, no complaints.  i'm 155 (street) and have them set in the middle range and they seem just a touch stiff, will adjust 2 steps softer tomorrow and all will be great am sure.  shocks come w/spanner and are 5-way adjustable for preload.

i've got the shorty shocks (-2 inches IIRC) and they look cool too!  they are HUGE improvement over my old shocks, well worth the $.

Just to clarify, are these the shocks on ebay with the progressive-wound dual spring setup, with the nylon bush between springs?
