Pipe Corrosion - what is it?!
« on: August 13, 2005, 10:14:23 AM »
hey all. I recently bought my CB750k2 and it came with some interesting corrosion on the left side exhaust pipes that looks to be from some kind of fluid spattering. at first i though - oh its from the chain I'll get that off easy. But it has proved to obe a bit of a bugger. Anyone have any ideas what it could be and therefore what will get it off? thanks

If it is a surface etch, you should be able to use polishing compound to bring back the luster.
If it has penetrated the porosity of the chome on a chemical level...

hi
give it a good clean and polish what you got to loose if it improves fine if not probablly a recrome is in order if you go for the recrome let the firm now its battery acid that did the damage they might want to neutralize the metal befor rechroming another thought chrome is put on top of copper as chrome wont stick to steel so if the chromes gone in places look at the edges if you see a copper color or yellow line its gone you can try anything that might work youve nothing to loose as the last resort is rechrome my favorute would be a stainless pan scruber or fine wire wool (0000 grade) and wd40 if that wont touch it nothing will
dont now about taking the exhausts off a 750 but it takes 5mins to get them off my 550k3

bike 54 hope your lucky

Huh, so that's what that crap is on my megaphone, I had been wondering since it didn't come off with polish or stainless steel wool. Crap.
