Rear Sprocket Studs - sheared off, need replacements
« on: August 11, 2005, 08:45:15 AM »
Hello all, it great to be back on-line (my home internet connection was down for the last month).

Upon finishing my last ride on the bike (78 CB750K), I discovered that 3 of the 4 studs that bolt the rear sprocket to the rear wheel were sheared off!!!  They were there when I started the ride, a nice leisurely cruise, no extreme acceleration or braking.

I’m in the process of drilling out the studs and removing them with an “ez out” bolt extractor.  Success in getting 2 out and but the last one will have to drilled out and re-tapped.

Here is the problem - I just hear back that there is only one stud left from Honda Canada, and that is the last of the stock (they are no longer making them).

Couple of questions to the group:
1 – Do you know of any other sources for these studs other than Honda?
2 – Have you ever had to do this repair? Tips and tricks appreciated
3 – Does anybody know what the specs. for these studs are with regards to tensile strength?
4 – Recommended torque?

Thanks in advance,

Regards
Tom
