Dwell for dummies
« on: April 09, 2008, 08:18:59 PM »
I have read that using a dwell meter is a much better way of setting point gap then using the feeler gauge method. I would like to try this, but have no clue how it is done.
I have a nice Simpson analog multimeter that shows dwell as one of the scales. Would I be able to use this meter to set dwell? If so, what setting does it have to be on? Where is it connected on the ignition system? Am I right in thinking that it will give me a much more accurate setting then the feeler gauge method?

I couldn't find a Simpson meter with dwell on the internet.  Maybe if I knew the model number?
I suspect you can use it to set dwell, but I don't know what settings yours has.  If it has a 2 cylinder setting that's the one to use.

You connect it to each side of or across the points you are measuring.

Yes, it will give you a more accurate setting than a feeler gauge, particularly on used points.
