Quick chain buying question....
« on: April 09, 2008, 07:59:01 AM »
I am buying a chain for my '72 CB750K. Are 100 links long enough or do I need to get 110? I'm looking at cheap standard 530 "universal" chain online. I have a chainbreaker so I can make the 110 link the right size but it would be nice to get the right size to begin with. As far as I know I have the stock sized sprockets.
Thanks.

102 links will fit best. 100 links is on the short side. Assuming 18/48 sprockets.

cheers
Andy

I'll start by saying this, everyone has a different opinion in the matter, my cheap chain was a pain in the ass, always dry, and I could never keep it adjusted. I rode my bike everyday rain or shine and maintenance was needed every week to keep it lubed so I got slack on it, one day the chain had a hard link and busted my cases coming around the drive gear.
The chain was a WPS chain, I have since put an X ring chain 100 link on mine(1973 CB 750) and with normal maintenance it has lasted me two years and shows no sign of stretching, binding of wearing out anytime soon. I would have to say the chain I bought was twice the price of a cheap chain but a tenth of the work maintenance wise. Are you planning on replace the sprockets at the same time?
I farted and made my son cry.
