Big Weekend
« on: April 04, 2008, 04:43:13 AM »
Well, my big weekend is here.
I'm taking my recently revitalized CB750F to Maxton, NC to participate in the ECTA speed trials.  The bike is basically stock so I'll in a Production class (P/P-750/4).  The current track record in this class is upwards of 160 so it is in no danger from me; I think Cycle World (or some magazine) got their 750F up to 125 or so when it was brand new, let's see how fast it will carry my 225 lb arse.

Wish me luck!
Rob

Good Luck Rob and be safe.  We will be waiting for story upon your return.  Is there a website where we can follow the action?

Thanks!

The ECTA website is: http://www.ecta-lsr.com/ but I don't think it will update until after the weekend.

My website is: http://www.thepeanutslab.com/3hm.html  The pictures at the bottom of the webpage are pretty much how it will be with the exception that my Orange tank started leaking so I switched to Blue body work.  I will try to make updates during the weekend, but I'm not a natural blogger so we will see how it goes.

btw, I'm a "never ever done this before green rookie", so any references to Bonneville on my site fall somewhere between hopeful and bravado...

RAIN!
Woke up several times last night to lightning flashes, plus every time the hotel air conditioner kicked on I thought it was a downpour (not that I was exactly sleeping like a baby...)
Oh well, we're going to head to the track regardless; we will be ready even if the weather isn't.

Well, Saturday we got rained out all day.  From the response of the non-racers, the area probably needed rain more than we needed to race.

Sunday they extended the hours until 4 PM.  We got to the track early and were able to get two runs in.  My best was 102.xx (don't recall the decimals off the top of my head) as measured in the traps at the 1 mile mark.  This was in 4th gear with the tach in the "yellow" range and still creeping up.  BTW, indicated speed was well over 110mph

Honestly a bit slower than I expected, but there is a method required for this stuff that I'm in the early learning stages of.  It would have been great to have a couple more runs (no problem if Saturday had been dry) to manage my shift points better.

I'll post some pictures to the 3HM website listed in a previous post in this thread for those interested.

By the way, lots of positive response to the bike itself.  As you know, virtually everyone either had a CB of some sort or their neighbor/cousin/buddy did.

Rob,

Well besides the poor weather I hope you had a good time.  Looking forward to the pictures.  I gotta get my bike to a speed trial at some point.

The website has been updated with pics from the event  http://www.thepeanutslab.com/3hm.html

One thing that doesn't jump out in the pictures is that there were probably 100 or more vehicles at the event; everything from bikes to lakesters to a Ford GT.  We waited about 3-4 hours between runs.  The time went by quickly between watching the track and talking to others.

I plan to return, but I won't be able to get back before the September event.
