How loose is your rear sprocket??
« on: April 09, 2008, 03:24:34 PM »
The rear sprocket on my lil' 350F is a little loose on the hub. It seems that the sprockets (studs or dowels?) are loose inside the rubber bushings in the hub.

It's not very loose, maybe 2-3mm or play at the teeth side to side. I drove it before I took it apart for the resto and it seemed fine.

My question, is there always a little play here, do your sprockets wiggle a little or are my bushings worn out.

 Cheers, Matt.

Mine wiggle when I run. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nope, the rear.... and I've seen a few other bikes that are loose. Just wondering what's worn or is a little looseness alright

Big squishy rubber things inside the hub make up what they call the "cush" drive. It minimizes shock loading on the gearbox. When new they are pretty snug but most will loosen up.

Slop is not ideal, but is totally harmless.

At 25K, mine are pretty snug.  While the idea is to "cush"ion the acceleration, there shouldn't be any play when moved by hand.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

I don't know what the service limit is on those cush drive rubbers, but if you choose to remove them...good luck is all I can say.  I have blocked out that week of my life from memory.
