Running on 2
« on: April 13, 2008, 09:04:10 PM »
Yesterday (Sunday) I rode about 200km then bike started to lose power and run on 2 cylinders then suddenly burst into life again. This happened intermittently until I stopped for lunch. The trip home 200km was a pleasure - full throttle lots of downshifting 70km/h uphill and if lucky 110km/h downhill.

Today have removed plugs found the culprits - No 2 and 3 are getting no spark
When I test 2 and 3 plugs on No 1 they get spark
I have trimmed the leads from the coil so wonder if from the coil is stuffed.
Also the spark on other plugs is pretty weak - hard to see
I'm running Dyna S ignition
Can someone explain to me in really basic laymans terms how to test the lead and coil?
Or is it time to replace the coil? The bike has done 48,000km but has gone years sitting in other peoples sheds. I've been riding it for the last 3 years after giving it a tidy up.

Thanks in anticipation

I want to get a few more rides in before the rains come.
It's 31 celcius here today and I'm on holidays and can't ride  :'( :(

pull the cap off and check the wire for that green glow of corrossion that might be sapping your spark.  Clean the cap connection or replace the cap and cut off the last mm or so of wire to find good copper and twist it back up and you should be fine.
