Assembling 1979 CB650 Carbs. HELP!
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:43:12 PM »
Hi Everyone, first post here.   I have a 1979 CB650 that I just biked up from the original owner.  8000 miles on it, but it sat for a few years, so I had to disassemble the carbs to clean them.  I have a PDF file of the 1979 official Honda shop manual, but it is kind of grainy and not very clear as to where to put everything.

I have each individual carb rebuilt in pristine condition, but I am having major problems figuring out the order and placement of the throttle linkage and items on the throttle shaft.  Does anyone know of a more descriptive diagram or explanation of how to put this back together?  I'm dying to get it on the bike to see if she fires.

Thanks for the help and glad to be here on the forum.

OMG.....
You are without a manual i'm assuming.

How far down did you tear down the carbs?
I wish i could help you.
I own a '79, and have torn my carbs down and put them back together several times, and still have problems getting them back together. Each re-build I refer to my manual for help.

I would REALLY recommend getting a manual.(seriously!!)
I happen to have a Clymer from back in the day(bought it used off E-bay) that is very good.
Not sure how the Haynes differs from a Clymers on the cb650 bikes, but the Clymers(or at least the old one I have) has a color wiring diagram that has saved my a** a couple of times.

I will look to see if i have a few pics of my '79 carbs that show some good detail of where things go. If i can't find those i might take a few fresh pics of my carbs as they sit right now as they are off the bike.

I have the manual, I just can't figure out where the thin choke relief spring that links the choke rods goes.  any idea?
