Size of nuts for CB500 head
«

I seem to have lost the nuts for my head during all of the moving around of parts in my cramped basement. I could swear I bagged & tagged them but alas, they are gone. Could someone please find out the size of the nuts that fit on the studs for a CB500. I have a '72 although that shouldn't make a difference. I really want to get this head back on and the bike back together.

Never mind, I posted too soon and answered my own question. Looking at the parts fiche, it appears that they are 8mm nuts with a 14mm washer underneath. I love all of the stuff this site has to offer!

They are a standard 8mm thread BUT they have a flange formed on them to spread the load AND are a 12mm hex whilst ones you buy will be 13mm hex and socket will not fit through hole in head unless its thin walled,
Also washers are thicker than normal ones
nuts 90236-300-000
washers 90485-036-000
need 12 of each and 750 ones are the same

yep, as Bryanj said, + these nuts are from very high grade steel, same for the washers, wouldnt replace them with anything other than originals. lost some myself at one point.... cheap though.

Thanks guys. I had already assumed that the flange was to spread the load. I called one of the local Honda shops today and they only had 5 nuts and 7 washers. I'll do some more calling in the morning and buy the correct ones.
