Swapping 76 750k engine into 78 750 k Frame?
« on: April 12, 2008, 09:40:33 AM »
I swapped my 76 750k engine into my 78 750k frame and was wondering how or if there is a way to keep my 78 wheel or make it work with parts from the two of the complete 78 and 76 rear wheels? The 78 is set up for 630 and the 76 is set up for the 530.

Pull the sprocket carrier out of the 78 wheel and swap with earlier one. (you could lathe or mill it down)

Or if you are splitting the cases on the motor, change the sprocket shaft..

When you say remove sprocket from sprocket carrier are you talking about removing sprcoket from the final drive flange?

Thanks alot I am going to head to the garage now and try to work it out.It makes perfect sense to me now ,I guess I can think a little clearer now than at 2:30am this morning when I was trying to figure it  at the garage. I do have some figuring to do,because I swapped the whole 76 final drive flange with the sprocket into my 78 wheel and had to switch the spacers around so I am not quite sure I remember which spacers are from the 76 or 78,but I do have all of them and a manual with a diagram for both bikes.I will let you know how it works out.
Thanks alot

I tried what you said and it didn't work because the final drive flange on the 78 is actually about 3/4 to 1inch thicker than the 76 final drive flange and when I measured the width of the 76 swingarm (which is not on my 78) it was about an inch and a half thinner at the rear end than the 78 .
There for with the 76 engine in my 78 frame and the 76 sprocket on the 78 final drive flange the rear sprocket and the engine sprocket were not at all in line. So now I am thinking of just swapping my 76 swing arm onto my 78 frame and then just using the 76 sprocket and the 76 final drive flange and put them into my 78 rear wheel hub and if I am correct it should work out!
If you have any better ideas please let me know or just let me know what you think.
Thanks alot
