how to test the coils on a 77 CB550

I have searched the threads to no avail, one thread had a dead link, so here I am asking a standard question. How do I test the coils while on the bike.  My bike loses power & dies upon warming up & I'm thinking it's possibly the coils (they are 1 year old). This just happened out of the blue & Im' trying to figure it out. Thanks for the help...
