Topic: Maine Cycle Salvage ~ Parts Galore

I took my boy out for a little road trip up to Auburn and Maine Cycle Salvage.

He thought it was lots of fun and had his eye on a little Honda trail 90.  I think he has a few years to go though....




The building may be up for salvage soon



Any one need some shocks?

This 750F tank had a bit o rust rattling around in it but didn't look too bad...



I was hoping to find an old Rickman, Avon or Dick's Cycle West fairing...  No such luck but there were many windjammers...



They had some running bikes as well these were going for $300 and $400 as you see them.



All in all it was fun morning outing.

If you may need anything from Maine Cycle Salvage, give them a ring.  They Ship.  They're nice, straight-up kind of folks who need some positive cashflow.

I think that they're a little corrupted by "Ebay Prices" but fact is you offer them reasonable money for stuff sitting in this leaky old building I bet they'll take it. 

No original CB 750 mufflers or side covers in case you're wondering.

I'll definitely have to stop by there this summer. Every summer I go up to our vacation houe for a week or two on Thompson Lake, maybe 30 minutes or less from Auburn. There is also a big junkyard off rt 206 on that tall hill. Everyone seems to know it. He's got cars on both sides of the road. Fair amount of old Fords (I've got a '66 and a '68 Galaxie).

Sadly, they are closed. They had a wall collapse or something and are closed until they get it fixed but it's been more than 8 months now. I did call a couple weeks ago and they said that it will reopen, just not yet. However, I have heard rumors of some guy with a hoard of bikes up near Milo. I'm still trying to find out details about it though.

I have heard of that guy as well. I'm at UMaine and a lot of people have told me to go up there because he has mostly jap bikes. Ill poke around this summer.

I visited a very similar place here in Chicago back in the very early 1980's occupying 2 or 3 floors in a turn of the century warehouse a few miles east of Midway Airport. It was stuffed with bikes and parts. The owner had half a dozen complete Triumph Tridents. It was amazing.

I just found Holmes Cycle Repair in Milford, ME. Lots of great parts but non of it is organized. It takes a fair bit on digging to find the good stuff. After an hour and a half I walked off with a functioning petcock and new gas cap for $40.

Thanks for this. The Warehouse was one of my favorite places to waste a rainy or cold Saturday.  I spent hours digging through the place and found some gems. EC Cycle is another good place for used parts. He's in the Newburgh area and has an eBay store. Not as fun as the Warehouse but his prices are better and you save the shipping by picking them up directly. The inventory is totally random (not just vintage).

I stopped by Maine Cycle last week and they said the Warehouse will be open again "soon". I love the place, but I can see why the city would close it down. That old mill has been living on borrowed time.  When water is pouring through the roof and floor boards have swelled into foot-high heaves it's only a matter of time. That being said I hope city doesn't take it too far. The ombionce was part of the fun.

I loved that place. I had my eye on an amen savior frame that sat there for at least three years. $15 for XS650 solid state reg/rect...my XS ate three of them :-/  I went over to the Maine Cycle shop last year, and the owner told me it was all fire code stuff for the building. I tried to talk him into letting me peruse on the down low...no go. I'm not sure that the investment to bring it up to code would e worth it, as it really is just a few steps from demolition.

Maine Cycle warehouse is up and running at a new location in Mechanic falls Maine. Everything is all on one floor including all the vintage hondas. With lot's of help from volunteers.
